Rose was already on her tenth tree when she smelled his scent on the air and knew that he was coming after her. She knew that she loved her twin and that some where deep down she was relieved that he was home safe but on the surface she was anger and hurt and not going to just forgive him for the months of pain that he had put her through.
She felt his arms around her and came to a halt in a punch. Jasper was not one for physical contact and even with her, he had only hugged her on the rare occasion. She knew that he was really trying but that did not change how she felt. She turned around and throw his arms off of her. She was truely the old Rosalie again as she spoke. She could hear the bitterness in her own voice but did not care. "You are begging for the honor to be my brother. I no longer have a brother. My twin was Jasper Hale and he would never have betrayed me. I do not know who you are Jasper Whitlock." Rose said to him as she walked back to the right side of the treaty line and almost hoped that a wolf was around though the days of the wolves attacking them were long gone.

Jasper expected nothing less when Rosalie roughly shoved him away. Even though he was expecting it, when she pushed him, it still cut Jasper to the core. He could feel himself beginning to buckle under the pain and anger that Rosalie felt and his own guilt at walking out on the family. Jasper crumpled to the ground and he felt a surge of anger directed at himself for not being strong enough. He was always the weak link in the Cullen family, and the sad truth was that Jasper always would be. He growled and slammed his fist into the ground. At that moment Jasper focused on Rosalie who had moved to the vampire side of the line. He was still focused on the ground in front of him but Jasper looked up to Rose when he found a flicker of hope. Deep in Rosalie’s core Jasper felt relief.
Whether it was for his homecoming or the pain he was clearly in Jasper couldn’t be sure. Right then Jasper found his inner strength and stood to face another wave of the old Rosalie temper. “Better then anyone in this family I know what you feel Rose, and probably better then any one in this family you know I do not care for a hopeless fight. But if I have to spend every waking moment until you throw me on a fire to prove something to you then I will. Yes I abandoned you and that is something I will regret for the rest of my life, but to me you have always been my sister Rose, my twin. If I spend the rest of my life proving that to you it would not be a waste.”

Though she did not want to admit it. Rose knew Jasper and knew that her pain was enough to hurt him and she hated hurting him, but she was mad at him. Rose was relieved that he was home safe, but she was still anger at him for leaving in the first place. She heard him and for the first time heard her twin who would tell her like it was and not let her get away with anything. But she also realized that he did not dispute the fact that he was not Jasper Hale any more and that alone was enough for Rose to feel pain over. After all Hale was her real last name and she had always been happy to share it with him. When he throw it away it was another way of him throwing her away.
She was starting to crumple and knew that her resolved was wavering but she was not going to let him off that easy. "I am Rosalie Hale and the only twin that I had was honored to share my name and would never have given it up, but you I do not know. Jasper Hale did know me as well as I know myself and vise versa, but I do not know that man that stands before me." She all but spat at him.

Jasper was able to regain calm as the storm of emotions fought inside of Rosalie. That storm gave Jasper hope that Rosalie would one day forgive him. The way that he saw things over his life time, not giving a damn was the opposite of love, not hatred. Hate could grow into love, as most often others used it as a cover for their pain. At that moment Jasper saw the relief and sadness grow inside of Rosalie, but she spoke and her relief was covered in a blanket of anger. Jasper patiently listened as Rosalie lashed out at him again. Knowing right now was a painfully critical moment Jasper stood his ground, “That may be true now Rose, but come hell or high water I will prove that I deserve to be your twin Rose. I want to be Jasper Hale again. I need to be.” More emotion then he had intended came out in those last four words. It was because he flashed back to his life before the Cullen family, before he had become Jasper Hale, a time in his life he never wanted to go back to. With all of his emotions and even the pain that Rose was feeling he spoke yet again, “And damn it Rosalie Hale whether you want me to or not, I love you. You are my sister and in my heart you always will be.”

Rose listened to Jasper as he would not let her go. It was the first time in almost a century that Jasper had fought with Rose and she knew that him meant what he side. For the first time in all their years together Rose felt Jasper's pain as if it was her own. She realized in that moment what it was like to be him and always have to feel the emotions of the ones around him. Rose knew in that instant that they were truely twins and always would be if she was feeling his pain. That was a connection that only twins could have, even if it was not a genetic thing. She knew that they would never be able to not be twins.
Rose gave up and let all of the emotions run through her as she fell to the ground on her knee's. She was not one to take her emotions lightly. "I love you too, my brother, my twin." She said in a whisper as she held her face in her hands. For the first time in the immortal life, Rose was crying, a tearless cry.

Jasper watched as Rosalie seemed to finally understand that he would not be leaving again. He could also feel the build up inside of her as Rosalie finally exploded and fell to the forest floor. Jasper felt an intense amount of relief as Rosalie seemed to be on the road to forgiving him. On the heels of that relief came the pain of seeing Rosalie with her face in her hands, and he knew that if she had them, the tears would be rolling down her face. Had Jasper been a human he would not have heard Rosalie whisper, "I love you too, my brother, my twin." Immediately Jasper was at Rosalie’s side pulling her in for another fierce hug. Jasper closed his eyes against the pain and whispered, “You are the best sister anyone could ask for Rose. I don't know if I really deserve you.” Jasper continued to hold Rosalie hoping that she could feel and understand his regret and desire to be better.

Rose felt Jasper's arms around her again and knew that their relationship would never be the same again. Jasper was comforting her like a twin should. She knew that they were truely bonded for eternity now. Though they may not live together all the time they would always be in contact with each other and Rose could live with that and be happy to have her brother home where he belonged. Rose had to laugh at his comment and try to change the atmospere, she hated being the weak one. "No one deserves me." She said as she pull away from him slightly and smiled so that he would know that she was joking with him.
She knew that she had to know everything that happened while he was gone, but was not sure that he would tell her. She let him go from their embrace and sat next to him on the ground and leaned against him like a twin would. "So tell me every thing that happened while you were gone. Why didn't you keep your promise to me?" She said in wondering tone.

Jasper felt the snap in the emotions as if it had made a noise. He grinned slightly as Rosalie pulled away as she said that no one deserved her. “I suppose that was why you had Emmett changed?” Jasper knew that Rosalie would understand his joking. Rosalie finally pulled back from Jasper and settled back against him as if it were the most natural thing for a sister to do. "So tell me every thing that happened while you were gone. Why didn't you keep your promise to me?" Jasper closed his eyes and gritted his teeth against the sudden rage Rosalie’s innocent question brought up. He could feel her stinging pain at being betrayed, and her true wonder at what could have been so important that he leave. Rosalie deserved the truth especially after the hell that she had been through because of him.
After sending away his own anger and pain Jasper spoke, “I went to Florida to get the answers of what happened that night with Bella’s cousin. The doctors,” Jasper felt himself noticeable tense up at the mention of Brooks and Foster, “They said that I should contact anyone until I was settled in. Days melted by one after another and before I was able to have any sort self control or power I was trapped. I went of my own free will, but it was never my intention to stay that long. I meant to be gone a few weeks at most, and come back even if I couldn’t remember.” Jasper fought the snarl building inside of him and tried to send it away, “My good doctors decided it was easier to keep me there instead of having other vampires come to them.”

Rose caught Jasper's joke about Emmett and elbowed him in the ribs. "Very funny." She said as she leaned back into him. Rose had to admit that she was happy and relieved to have her brother home again. She had missed him more than she realized. Rose leaned back into her twin and waited for him to tell her where he was. She knew that Jasper would tell her, he never kept things from her. That was the good thing about them. They could tell each other anything and they would defend and protect each other. Rose was thinking to herself about how easy it was to forgive him and fall back into their normal relationship.
When she heard him tell her about where he had been, the anger flared in her once again. This time though it was not directed at him. She realized that he had been held against his will and that was not good. Rose was furious at the doctors that held him and wanted their blood. "So you were being held captive by these doctor's and you never really meant to stay gone without contact with me?" She asked him trying to control the anger so that it would not hurt him. Rose knew her brother too well and knew that her feelings were stronger to him, because they were so close. "How did you get away from them?" She asked as the protectiveness kicked in and she wanted to hunt them down.
Rose felt bad now for the anger. If she had gone after him like she wanted to then he would not have had to live through that. "I knew that I should have come after you, like I wanted to." She said to him and leaned deeper into his side. "I really have missed you Jazz. I am glad that you are home safe. We have so much to catch up on. So much has happened since you left." Rose said softly. She knew that she needed to be the one to tell him about everything but she did not know where to begin.

Jasper laughed and made a show of rubbing his side where Rosalie had playfully elbowed him. He could feel his own relief mixed in with Rosalie’s that they were on the mend and once again Jasper would have loved nothing less then to ring Foster’s neck. As Jasper told Rosalie he could feel the anger welling up inside of her and in a strange way it brought him comfort that Rosalie was actually forgiving him. "So you were being held captive by these doctor's and you never really meant to stay gone without contact with me?" Jasper swallowed away the bitter taste that Rosalie’s anger was leaving in his mouth and he could feel himself nodding in answer.
He snorted a little, as he was disgusted with himself, “That would be the right description of it. I planned on being gone for a month give or take a week, and I wanted to write you as soon as I arrived but they told me it would be best for me to wait. I hope that you can believe me enough to know that I really did want to write you.” The solar flare of Rosalie’s rage was beginning to consume him again and Jasper tried to focus on his words. In almost each other instance Jasper could put aside the anger and deal with it but Rosalie was his sister for almost a century. They had always been close and because of their special sibling bond Rosalie’s emotions had always been harder for him to deal with.
Jasper involuntarily closed his eyes when Rosalie asked how he had escaped. Her other innocent question brought another wave of emotions crashing into Jasper. Alice had been unknowingly brought into the conversation. It seemed that Rosalie was genuinely asking and it was evident that Alice had not told the family about her own visit to Florida. Jasper hated himself for what he was about to say but he justified it by thinking he wasn’t lying and he was protecting Alice from potential anger. With an honest grin as he thought about that moment he was free Jasper chuckled, “They were stupid enough to open the door without looking first.”[/b] Instead of reflecting on it too much Rosalie lamented that she should have come to see him, and Rosalie’s regret was causing more pain than the anger had.
Rose leaned further into his side and Jasper rested his head on top of hers for a moment before he spoke again with all of the conviction that he could muster. “Rose I never want you to feel guilt for not coming to see me. It wasn’t your fault and it never will be; I mean for all we know they could have tried to keep you as well.” A small chuckle escaped at the thought of the two doctors trying to contain Rosalie, “Actually I take that back.” Jasper listened with pain inside as Rosalie told him that he had missed so much, and that she had missed him. Jasper sighed, “Well I am making it my mission now to be around so much that you will want to send me back to Florida just to get rid of me.” Jasper grinned at his poor joke a little unsure if Rosalie would find it funny considering all that had happened. “Rose you can tell me anything you want or need to; or if you like we can sit here in quiet if that would make you feel better.”

Rose listened to her brother and thought about what he was saying. She knew that he was holding something back but she was not going to push him. He would tell her in his own time. When he placed his head on her's, she was totally content for the first time in months. She felt more at home there with him than she had at the mansion since he left. Rose thought over all the things that she wanted to tell him and what she should not tell him. Rose sighed a heavy contented sigh before she began.
Rose took a deep breath and started on the less important things. "Well let's see, for starters, Will is dead and Crystal is plotting her revenge on the family I am sure." Rose said pausing briefly to look up at his face. Rose knew that she was waiting for Crystal to make her move but she was not sure how her twin would react. He was the true warrior of the family, but he was different now and she was not sure for the first time, but she let it go for now. She moved on the the next topic.
She thought about the family and the distance between them. "After you left the family kinda fell apart. None of us are ever at the mansion together anymore. I barely see Emmett and Maden, much less the rest of the family. Alice is still not speaking to me and I have only seen Esme and Carlisle once since you left. I have not been living at the mansion. I could not walk by your door and think about you being gone." She thought about the day that they found the letter and knew that she was going to have to admit to him what she had done. "Jasper, the day that you left and we found your letter, I kinda destroyed several of the tree around the house. I was so hurt that I wanted to break something." She said in a sheepish tone. She knew that there were other things that they needed to talk about and she was going to get to them but she need to give him time to absorb what she had already told him.

For the first time since he had seen Rosalie, Jasper felt a sense of calm settle in. It relaxed Jasper against the fact that he could still feel a sting about what he had done. Jasper was surprised but happy to hear of Will’s death and he also regretted the fact that he wasn’t here to help his family. As Crystal was mentioned a snarl escaped Jasper’s lips. As far as he was concerned he would still have his family if she never came. If Jasper had not taken her side over Alice’s then he would still be married to Alice and his twin would not have gone through heart break. Jasper knew then that he wanted to even the score, and he knew that Crystal would regret everything. Before Jasper had a chance to go into great detailing about how he wanted to maim Crystal, Rosalie told him what happened to all of the family members after he had left. Jasper was amazed at the amount of pain and suffering that he had caused for his family.
Jasper turned and held Rosalie to him hoping that she could understand the pain and regret Jasper had in his heart; or what was left of it. Rosalie then had a flicker of shame appear in her and Jasper pulled away with a frown as she told him what had happened to some of the trees outside the mansion. Jasper cocked his head to the side and thought for a moment before an overwhelming sense of laughter demanded to be heard. After a few moments of what seemed to be extremely odd and in appropriate laughter Jasper shook his head at Rosalie. One of the first smiles in a long time was drawn into his face, “Rosalie…” Another chuckle escaped before Jasper continued, “Rose I left the family without the decency to say good bye personally, or even in your own letter. You feel ashamed about a few trees?” Jasper realized that it was probably wrong of him to laugh but it seemed so backwards to him. With a faint smile on his lips Jasper nodded for Rosalie to continue, “What about everyone else?” He intentionally left that question open so that Rosalie could answer it however she wanted.

Rose heard her brother's laugh at her admission of the tree's and she had to laugh to in her windchime laughter. Everyone knew Rose's temper and at least it was not one of Esme's priceless antiques like it normally was when she got mad. "Well at least it was not Esme's antiques." She said to him smiling with him. She was not trying to hurt her twin, but she knew that she had to tell him about Lexie and the twins. He had a right to know about them, even if he didn't want to. She was not sure how he would feel about them. She knew that she loved them, because they were his and a part of her family.
She heard him ask about everyone else and figured that she might as well get it over with. "I don't want to hurt you, and I don't want you to leave again, but I have to tell you about Lexie and the twins." She said to him watching for some sign to tell her to stop. She continued in a rush to get this part of the conversation over. "Jasper, Lexie is mistreating the twins. She does not let them use their powers and she even punishes them when she catches them using their power. She will not let us see them. I have not seen Rosie and Eddie since you left. I don't believe that she knows how to raise half-vampire children. She is not letting them be true to their selves and she is keeping them away from us." She stopped long enough to take a deep breath before she finished. "Emmett and I were talking about taking the twins away from her and raising the ourselves." Rose finally finished and fell silent waiting on the response from Jasper. She could already feel the tension in the air between them.
Rose was slowly realizing that the time away from Jasper had made her even more attuned to him and his feelings. It was almost like she had his power and was feeling his emotions.

Jasper laughed along with his sister again as Rose offered the consolation that it was not an antique. Those had been the poor innocent victims in the old days of Rosalie’s anger. Jasper could feel a shift in Rosalie’s emotions and he knew that his smile had shrunk. "I don't want to hurt you, and I don't want you to leave again, but I have to tell you about Lexie and the twins.” Jasper was no longer human but he knew that if he was his blood pressure would have gone through the roof. Trying to ignore the tension that was quickly growing he focused on what Rosalie was saying about Lexie and the children. His children.
The more that Rose spoke about what Lexie was doing to his children the deeper he could feel the snarl growing in his throat. Everything that Rosalie was saying that Lexie was doing to Rosie and Eddie sounded too close to what happened to him in Florida. It struck a nerve deep inside of Jasper’s core and he went back to the caged animal version of himself. Jasper immediately got to his feet as he fought against the red that was blurring his vision. “I’ll be damned if she is going to trap my children like that.” He turned to face Rosalie as he tried to control his anger and send it away so he would not upset his twin. Jasper’s control was limited and he had it long enough to ask, “Where are they?”

Rose watched as Jasper's anger boiled like she knew it was going to. They were acting more like each other than ever before. She was feeling his emotions and he had her anger issue's. Rose thought about that for a moment but knew that laughing would not be a good idea. She heard him call the twins, his for the first time and that make her hopeful. She stood up next to him and placed her hand on his shoulder, hoping to give him strength to control his temper. Rose knew all to well what losing control could do. She had lost control enough over the years.
Rose knew that she had to choice her words carefully to keep her twin from going off the deep end. "Jasper, we will not let her get away with what she is doing to the twins. We will deal with her together and we will get the twins." She said hoping that her words would be enough. She knew that she had to tell him, so she took a deep breath and released it slowly. "We are not sure were she is right now. She took the twins and disappeared. I have been trying to find her for months. That is part of the reason why I have not been at the mansion." She said to him looking into his eyes.
