Evan sighed heavily. This conversation was going to be more difficult that he anticipated. "Jasper, they are still your family. Rosalie has been so lost without you because you are her twin, regardless of blood relation. Even if they do not agree with what has happened, they are still your family. Esme fell into a depression after you left because you are her son," he explained calmly and rationally, avoiding bringing Alice up as he knew it was a touchy subject. "None of them put me up to coming down here. I came here of my own free will because I know that they miss you."

Jasper looked away and down and shook his head. "I've been with them for too long," he muttered. He looked back at Evan, expression serious. "When I left Maria and her coven, I fell into my own depression. Most of it was over her way of life, although it was the only lifestyle I knew. But the one reason I left that nobody but Alice ever knew about was the fact that I loved Maria. I told her every day and every night but she never said it back. Not once in one hundred odd years. When I met Alice I got over it. The family just has to meet their Alice. Just like I have to meet my new Alice."

Evan shook his head. "It isn't about finding a new Alice," he explained. "You've got a family that cares for you, even if you aren't married into it anymore. Even though you are still hurting because of what happened, you will find someone. You just have to let things go, even if you feel like you can't." Evan walked a few paces and back again, leaning his back against the opposite wall from Jasper. "You know, despite the awkwardness between us, I feel like you could be my brother Jasper. We were both brought into this life unwillingly. Although I never had my version of Maria, I do understand some of what you went through accepting what you had become."

Jasper looked down left and shook his head. "I can't have a family anymore. I was brought into this life because of my strength and the attraction my sire had on me." He lifted his head a little, eyes still on the floor. "I was raised to do what your heart tells you. And this is what mine is telling me." He looked at Evan. "I'm sorry. But I can never come back. The memories are too painful."

Listening to Jasper, Evan could understand where he was coming from. After his transformation, he was never able to see his family again. They all thought he was dead. But, he also knew that no matter how devastating this was to Jasper, it was equally so for his family. The Cullens loved Jasper, even if they did not agree with what happened or how he handled the situation. "And what about your children?" he asked quietly. "Those little ones need a father. Will you ever go see them again?"

Jasper shrugged, looking down again. "I don't know. I don't think my heart can take it." He sighed and turned around, looking at the wall. "My life has just gone out of control and I need the time to re-evaluate it. It's not about the things I once knew. It's about the things that I shouldn't be around to see."

Evan bunched his eyebrows together and arched one in confusion. While he understood the need to re-evaluate one's life, he did not understand the last part of what Jasper had said. "What do you mean there are things you should not be around to see?" he asked out of curiousity. "Your children love you, regardless of how they came into this world or how much you were unsure, they love you."

Jasper shook his head. "I shouldn't be here. I should be dead." He turned around to face Evan. "My life would've ended in the late 1800's or--hell--maybe even during the war if it hadn't been for Maria. I wasn't cut out for this life. It's not about the kids. It's not about anyone but me." He lowered his voice. "And I can't fix the life I so desperately love." He turned back around and shook his head. "Dr. Foster said I should channel my pain into something creative." He turned to a stand with a drawer. Inside, he pulled out a piece of paper. He looked at it. Turning to Evan, he walked to him and handed him the piece of paper. Lyrics*This song does not exist in the world anymore now that we're using it.

Reading the lyrics, Evan knew that Jasper was still in pain over losing Alice. That was something he was still not over and Evan understood, more than Jasper would ever know. But, that part of himself was not something he revealed to anyone. "Jasper, these are good lyrics," he said, handing back the paper. "Even if you feel that your life should have ended a long time ago, it didn't and there is a reason for that. There is a reason for everything I suppose, even if you don't see it now...it will reveal itself soon enough. Fate is something I believe in and it helps me get through the tough times."

Jasper took the paper back as Evan continued to speak and walked back over to the stand and put the paper back in the drawer. When Evan mentioned fate, Jasper scoffed. "Well fate sucks." He stood there looking at the wall that he stood in front of.

Evan sighed deeply, not knowing what else to say to Jasper. He knew that Jasper was a man of principles, just as he was himself. Shuffling his feet, he stared down at the floor for a moment. "Fate sometimes takes you down a road that you didn't expect in the beginning, but it will always lead you somewhere in the end," he said, ending his conversation on the note of trying to convinced Jasper to come home. "So...those two docs seem...nice," he continued on a different subject, trying to keep things as light as possible.

Jasper focused on the anger and frustration that was broiling inside of him and took a deep breath and forced it all from his body. He felt himself calm down immensely as he turned to the young vampire. Jasper could sense now how lost Evan felt at the moment. The young vampire had come all the way to Florida to talk to him and Jasper was still unsure of why Evan would continually put himself in the line of fire to speak with him. Jasper seemed forced to go over everything that Evan had insisted about fate. At that point Jasper thought bitterly, ‘Fate and all of her followers can go to hell as far as I am concerned.’ Jasper had once believed in fate but he refused to believe that his life was going as it was suppose to be.
Jasper nearly missed Evan asking about his two doctors. Something began itching in the back of his mind at that point and some confusion filled him but as he had with the frustration Jasper forced the feeling out. Jasper then turned to Evan and nodded at his question, “They have helped me quite a lot actually.” Jasper forced the confusion that was stirring up as the conversation turned towards his doctors. “You have been honest to me Evan and I will return that favor. I know you want me to come back to Forks, but I do not know if that will happen in the near future. According to the doctors I may be here for awhile.” Jasper focused on the frustration and allowed it to flee his body.

Evan sighed deeply, knowing that Jasper was not going to come back with him and he understood the reason why. Things were so messed up between his family and him that it would take a long time to repair all of the damage that had been done. "I understand your reasoning Jasper," he said. "And I guess those doctors know what they're doing." Evan backed against a wall and leaned against it, crossing his arms and began thinking about how this whole thing would play out later. So far, he didn't like the situation, but wasn't saying anything about it.

Jasper nodded and felt some relief that Evan seemed to understand why he could not go back. Jasper felt a massive amount of anger flood through him. He felt himself jolt at the sudden rush of it, he looked over to Evan but the young vampire felt far to calm to be the source of anger. Jasper then reflected on what Evan had just said, “And I guess those doctors know what they’re doing.” The itch in the back of his memories came back and as Jasper focused on the anger to force it from his body the clearer the images started to become. They were flashes of him first coming to Florida and seeking out the doctors and it seemed like the memories switched to testing that the doctors had first performed. Jasper growled at himself and forced his mind to go towards the vampire who was across the room from him. This anger and the flashing-hazy thoughts did not happen before Evan came, and Jasper paused for a moment wondering if his ex-wife’s new fiancé was the cause of it.
(Down the hall.) “Foster we have to get that prying child out of here.” Dr. Brooks hissed. “You think I don’t know that?” snarled Dr. Foster in return, “But if we go in there now we will make him even more suspicious and the last thing we need is the royal family coming and sticking their noses where they do not belong.” Dr. Brooks felt her top lip easily slip into a snarl and she pointed at the screen that showed Jasper and Evan talking in Jasper’s room, “I am going in there I refuse for us to loose everything just so some new man can clear his conscious before he goes off and marries Jasper’s left overs.” “You go in now feeling this way and Jasper will sense it, that little brat is waking him up.” Dr. Foster snapped grabbing onto her fellow doctor’s arm. Dr. Brooks hissed and pushed Foster away from her. “I think I have the self control to out smart him. Now if you will excuse me I am going to go save our asses from the pyre.” Dr. Brooks pushed past Dr. Foster and walked down the hallway towards the room holding Jasper and Evan. She took a fraction of a second to focus her thoughts and a handle on her emotions. Dr. Brooks knocked on the door and entered wearing a tight face, “Evan I think it best that you leave now. Jasper does not need this sort of stress. He just went through quite a lot with the testing and he does need this sort of trouble right now. Perhaps it is best you come back another time?” Dr. Brooks had her breathing even as she spoke and she was almost as calm as she was imagining herself.
Jasper turned as Dr. Brooks entered the room before Evan or himself could say anything else. She was confirming what he felt and as he studied Dr. Brooks he felt annoyance, anger, and something close to panic coming from her. The flashes began to come back and Jasper turned to Evan trying to forget them, “I think Dr. Brooks is right Evan. You have no more reason to be here. You have said your opinion and now you may go.”
