Lucy sauntered into the diner, yes sauntered; she was in an impeccable mood. She had gotten to hang out with Kaleb a couple of times over the last several days. Not even Katelyn and Kenzie’s teasing had bothered her. Speaking of which Katelyn really had no room to tease Kenzie had found out that the other part of the trio had been spending a lot of time with Nathaniel. When he was brought up in conversation Kate had always fought against it and did her best to change the subject, but would always have a goo-goo look in her eyes. Lucy plopped down in a booth and stretched her legs out to the bench in front of her. Deciding that a hamburger sounded amazing she placed her order and stretched back day dreaming about how the rest of her summer was going to be. Lucy grinned to herself, “I love life right now.”

Kenzie was bored as blazes; Jonathan was so busy with his tribe stuff lately that they had not made time for their weekly ritual of hanging out at his house to watch a movie. So, she had banished herself to her room to finish some dance work for the fall season, including picking out the new costumes. Once that was finished, her boredom set in again and she could not stand it any longer. This was the summer for crying out loud! Grabbing her car keys, she headed out toward the one hangout place in Forks: The Diner. She parked her car outside and went inside. Just inside the door, she saw one of her best friends in the world, Lucy. Going over, she sat down right across from her and smiled. "Hey, I didn't know you were coming here today!" she gushed happily. "Where is Sexy Cowboy?" she asked, drawing her lips into a smirk.

Lucy grinned and waved as Kenzie came into the diner and sat across from her. Lucy scooted over so that she could still prop up her legs on the seat in front of her. Kenzie expressed her surprise at seeing her. “Yeah it was a strike to fight back the boredom.” Lucy felt her grin grow when Kenzie asked, “Where is Sexy Cowboy?” Lucy rolled her eyes at her friend and tried to ignore all of the mental images of Kaleb she was receiving. ‘Who the hell am I kidding Cowboy is sexy.’ “I’m not sure, probably out at his ranch or something haven’t talked to him in a day or two.”
Lucy did not really want to get on the subject just yet with Kenzie, since she herself was not entirely sure what was going on between Kaleb and herself. “What about Jon? Your boy toy still stuck on the reservation?” She knew what she was going to get herself into; Jon was the easiest subject change with Kenzie. Especially as of late because he and Kenzie always were able to hang out, and their lack of special time was driving Lucy up the wall. Kenzie’s bummer mood conserning Jon was driving Lucy to the point of wanting to drag Jon out of La Push with her bare hands.

After Kenzie sat down, she put her bag next to her and looked at her best friend. She could tell that there was something going on between her and the cowboy, but decided not to press it any further, especially since Lucy mentioned Jon. "Yeah, Jon's still stuck out on the reservation with some business his tribe needs to take care of," she replied, looking down at the menu quickly and ordering her lunch before looking back at Lucy and smiling. "I don't get to see him as much as I would like to, but I understand since it's his tribe and that is a part of who he is."
Kenzie looked around at the Diner to see that it was fairly empty, which was alright with her. It just meant she didn't have to shout in order to talk to Lucy. "So, my parents seem to think that I should start looking at colleges for after senior year," she continued, changing subjects. "They don't want to accept the fact that all I want to do is dance...well, my mom doesn't. My dad says I should do whatever my heart tells me to." Kenzie folded her hands in her lap and thought about it. Her heart had always been in dance since she was old enough to walk. From five-years-old, she had dedicated her life to dance and didn't want to stop just because she graduated high school.

Luckily Kenzie seemed to become sidetracked enough and talked about how busy Jon was at the reservation. ‘Oh I am so going to drag Jon out of that stupid places for everyone’s benefit.’ Lucy promised to herself. She waited while Kenzie ordered and started talking about colleges. Lucy felt a little differently then Kenzie obviously did. Lucy loved dance with every fiber of her being but she was determined to go to college for at least four years. She had not decided what she wanted to major in just yet, all Lucy knew is that she wanted to go. “A couple years of college wouldn’t be too bad would it? I mean it could end up being pretty fun; especially if you get a dancing major or something.” Lucy offered casually.

Kenzie shrugged her shoulders apathetically. It was not her dream to go to college...at least right away. "I dunno Luce, I mean...I want to maybe do the touring thing for a little while, take a year off from school and then maybe consider it," she explained slowly. Kenzie also knew she had to consider her boyfriend, Jonathan. He meant the world to her and she knew she could never be apart from him again. But dance was her chosen career path in life, so she had no idea what to do. Her heart was ripping her in two very different directions and she wished she knew what to do about it.
She sighed heavily and smiled at the waitress as she brought her food over. For a few seconds, she picked at her food with her fork before taking a bite. "I mean, I've thought about maybe starting a dance school near this area someday since I love dance so much. It's my life Luce...and I can't just give it up. You know what I mean?" She looked to her best friend and hoped she would be understanding.

Lucy sighed as she heard Kenzie talk so hesitantly about college. Lucy figured that part of what was holding on inside of Kenzie was what to do with Jon. It was not until recently that she had found out what had gone on during the time out that Kenzie and Jon had; Lucy was pretty sure that Kenzie would not allow it to happen again. When Lucy’s food was brought over she thanked the waitress and ignored it at the moment with the conversation that she was having. Lucy was waring with herself in what to say to Kenzie; usually it tended to be Kenzie and Lucy trying to calm Kate down and have her come to reason. Lucy was not used to being the only one she sighed, “Yeah I guess I kinda get it. I guess I just don’t see how not going to college as an option.” Lucy gave a small shrug to show that she was at a bit of a loss with what to say to Kenzie.

Knowing that it was difficult for Lucy to fathom not going to college, Kenzie decided it was time for a subject change. Topics like not going to college were better saved for when Katelyn was around. The three of them tended to tackle difficult topics like that when they were together. "So...now that we're out of school for the summer, what are the plans for a road trip?" she asked mischieviously, raising her eyebrow. It was well known that Kenzie, Lucy, and Katelyn summers were the most amazing of any set of friends for miles around. "I say we head out toward the east this time." She smiled at her best friend and hoped she would agree.

Kaleb was on his way home through town from running some errands for his mother when he drove past the diner. He slowed as he recognized Kenzie and Lucy's cars out front. He pulled into a spot down the row from them and walked into see if he could spot his friends. Slowly approaching he caught the tail end of a conversation that they were having. Kenzie was talking and he heard the latter part of her comment, ".....road trip? I say we head out toward the east this time." Putting on a big smile he walked over and squatted down eye level with the girls, at the end of their table, "You girls aren't planning on runnin off on me are ya?" he said with a grin and a twinkle of sarcasm in his eyes.

Lucy grinned and was perfectly fine to go along with the conversation change. It certainly was onto a brighter subject, the annual road trip the trio would take each summer. Lucy laughed at the tone in Kenzie’s voice when she brought it up. She was going to respond that she would not mind making a slightly shorter trip down to California, but she heard the bell that was attached to the front door jingle. With her knee jerk reaction to see what was going on Lucy looked across the diner to see who had just entered, it was Kaleb. She could feel a bright smile on her face when she saw Kaleb make a bee line for where she and Kenzie were sitting. Part of her realized that it probably wasn’t exactly a good thing, because Kenzie and Katelyn had never really cornered her about what was going on between her and Kaleb. Lucy had also failed to mention that she had spent one of the most amazing afternoons of her life out at Kaleb’s house. All of the reasons behind her smile were things that Kenzie and Kate would tease the hell out of her for. Kaleb reached the end of the table and kneeled down asking, "You girls aren't planning on runnin off on me are ya?" Lucy knew that he was joking and she could feel her smile grow before she slid her face in a mask of mock seriousness, “Yes I am afraid so Cowboy, we are making a run for the border.” After a few seconds she laughed and scooted over on the bench, “You can sit with us if you aren’t too busy. I mean we don’t wanna make Luna jealous.” She realized that it probably was not the best idea to bring up the horse knowing that it was getting to close to the subject of that day she had spent on the farm. ‘Oh well Kenz and Kate will find out eventually, best in a public place.’ Lucy thought to herself with a mental giggle. Before Kenzie could get an answer from Lucy, she heard a distinct male voice with a thick southern accent attached to it. She knew that voice as the one and only Kaleb. She watched the little exchange between her best friend and the cowboy with a sarcastic smirk on her face that only Lucy would understand as the We're gonna talk about this later look. After wiping that look off her face long enough to compose herself, Kenzie then turned her attention to Kaleb so that she wouldn't be rude to their new friend...or more than friend in some cases. Kenzie knew she would get the four-one-one on everything once she had Lucy alone...or better yet, with Katelyn. She also made a mental not to herself to ask who Luna was.
"So, since we're on the topic of roadtrips, as before mentioned," she carried on their previous conversation with some enthusiasm. "Lucy and I were talking about heading out east to go somewhere this summer. Since we're old enough to drive on our own, we're going to convince our parents to let us go...and Katelyn too." There was a mischievious smile spreading across her face as she looked to Lucy one second and back to Kaleb the next. "You should come with us," she said.

Still smiling, Kaleb looked back and forth between the two girl's faces, trying to decipher the glances he was getting. 'Girls will be girls...' Then he heard Lucy say "Yes I am afraid so Cowboy, we are making a run for the border.....You can sit with us if you aren’t too busy. I mean we don’t wanna make Luna jealous.” She then scooted over and made room for Kaleb to join them. Half smiling he turned his head to Lucy and gave her a wink, and as he scooted into the seat beside her he said "Why, thank-ee, Ma'am, don't mind if I do...and Luna, she'll just have to get over it."
He laughed at his own accent and then heard Katelyn get back to the subject of road trips. He listened as she elaborated on the part of the conversation that he had walked up on. He then caught her steal a glance at Lucy, and then glance back at him as she invited...no, almost dared, him to go with them. Raising an eyebrow and stroking his chin in semi-mock thought he decided to take her up on it. His sly reply was, "Hmmm, noooot, a baaaad idear...but I dunno bout this going east bit...what about heading south...like, WAY south?" His eyebrows arched up to emphasize the word 'way.' "It just so happens that I have some connections down in Texas, little lady...Whatcha say to that?" Lowering one eyebrow he glanced between the two girls with a look of question and mischief on his face.

Lucy slapped a hand over her face when Kaleb said Luna would just have to get over it. She bent over the table slightly and she could feel her shoulders shaking at the laughter that she was trying to hold in. After a few moments of fighting to gain her composure Lucy was able to sit up and take a sip of her Coca Cola. ‘Man poor Kenzie is probably wondering what in the hell is going on.’ Lucy bit down on the inside of her cheek when she noticed Kaleb arching a brow as a laugh threatened to escape. It was her turn to arch a brow when Kaleb said, "Hmmm, noooot, a baaaad idear...but I dunno bout this going east bit...what about heading south...like, WAY south?"
She tilted her head to the side slightly but a grin split her face when Kaleb suggested Texas. “That sounds like a pretty good idea.” Lucy was going to just agree but seeing the mischief on Kaleb’s face, it inspired her to tease Kenzie a little. Based on Kaleb just saying for Luna to get over it instead of saying that Luna was actually a horse Lucy spoke with a straight face and cleared her throat. “Yeah that actually sounds like a pretty good idea; as long as Luna doesn’t get too mad.” Lucy turned to Kenzie, “So what do you say Kenz? Road trip to Texas sound funner then somewhere East?”

It took every amount of concentration and focus to not start laughing out loud when Kaleb and Lucy started openly flirting at the table. Kenzie bit her lip and tried her hardest not to look like she was going to laugh, fixating her attention on something completely not amusing, finally landing on a painting on the opposite wall of their booth. Her attention was reverted moments later by Lucy's question about going to Texas instead of somewhere East. Kenzie shrugged once, "I'm up for anywhere really, so long as it gets me out of here for a while." Just as the words left her mouth, she had another idea that she decided to voice. "What if Jon came too?" she asked, playing with the straw in her drink. Knowing that she could not be without her boyfriend again for any amount of time, she wanted him to come with them. Lucy, above all people, would understand the sanity behind her motivation.

Lucy did her best to ignore Kenzie because Lucy could guess what Kenz was thinking. There was a part of her that wanted to laugh out loud because she could tell how much Kenzie wanted to get to the bottom of the Lucy and Kaleb thing. She felt a grin split her face when Kenzie said she would be willing to go anywhere that got her away for awhile. Lucy looked over to Kaleb, “Well I guess you get to play tour guide again Cowboy, seems like we are headed for Texas.” A few seconds later Kenzie asked if Jon could come along on the road trip. Lucy nodded, “Yeah the more the merrier. Jon is Kenzie‘s boyfriend.” Lucy nudged Kaleb wearing a playful grin, “At least now the guys won’t be so out numbered.” That also brought up the mental question of Katelyn and wondering if there was someone else that they could invite that way Katelyn would not be the fifth wheel. ‘I wonder if Nathaniel would be interested in going? Probably not he is a college guy, and he could be busy. But it still could be worth a try.’ Lucy thought to herself.
