Lucy’s first two classes went by in a breeze. History was one of her favorite classes beside English, but the same thing could not be said about Spanish. At her old high school in Seattle Spanish passed by like a snail so Lucy could not understand why class passed in the blink of an eye. As she packed her bag Lucy remembered that she had English next. The class right before she needed to make her escape, and the class that had “One of the most beautiful guys in the world! Gah! Lucy just a guy, focus on the fact that you have to out run two of your friends. If you are listening Lord save me from the curse of my friends.”
Lucy skipped into English and she took a seat two rows back on the side closest to the doorway. ‘When in doubt haul ass out.’ Lucy laughed lightly at how ridicules that sounded in her head and sighed as she pulled out her notebook and a pen to take notes. She glanced at the clock and saw that she had a few minutes and Lucy began doodling on the edges of her paper while her real focus was on getting through English and hiding as quick as possible. “Guess it is a good thing I packed those granola bars this morning.” Lucy muttered to herself.

Kaleb finally sauntered into the class he had been looking forward to all morning. 'Advanced English and pretty girls.' Taking a look around he noticed that he was actually kind of early, there were only a few other people in the room...one of them being Lucy. He watched as she absentmindedly drew something in her notebook and thought he heard her say something even though she was sitting alone. Walking stealthily up to her side he quietly leaned over and said "You know, my grandfather always told me you're not crazy if you talk to yourself...but you are definitely crazy if you give yourself an answer." Unknowingly flashing a proud grin he thought to himself 'Good start, but take it easy, and just hope she doesn't think you're crazy too, stupid...'

Lucy was in the middle of drawing an open music box with a ballerina when she suddenly heard someone speaking to her. Normally she would have looked up and responded with an attempt at a witty comment, but seeing how Lucy was in her own world life was not that simple. Lucy let out an extremely undignified surprised squeal and jumped unfortunately dumping herself onto the ground next to her chair. She put one of her hand over her face and one hand over her heart as she tried to catch her breath. A few moments later Lucy uncovered her eyes half expecting Katelyn or Kenzie there since they knew when she was in her own world, but it was Kaleb.
“Oh of freaking course! I HATE my life!” Lucy yelled inside her head as her face felt like it warmed up by several degrees. Lucy gathered her legs under her and got to her feet as gracefully as she could and pretened to dust off giving herself a few seconds to stop blushing. ‘I am such an idiot, just someone hand me the paper bag right now.’ Lucy felt her face cool off enough but as she looked to face Kaleb her face turned into flames again, “Sorry…so…um…hey Kaleb.” ‘LAME-O Luce.’ Lucy groaned inside her head and took a mental sigh waiting for Kaleb to explode with laughter along with some of the other student in class that were chuckling.

Katelyn went through her first few classes of the day, bored as usual because no one was in her classes that she knew. She had to go through the barage of introducing herself five hundred and one times before people finally figured out who she was. Good thing this is a small school, she mused to herself, half-jokingly. So far, she had not seen hide or hair of Kenzie, which she knew was going to be a freak out session. Kenzie didn't even know she was there, so it was going to be interesting.
When Katelyn walked into her Advanced English class, she knew she would at least know Lucy and the new guy, Kaleb. That eased her nerves as she walked in. Almost immediately, she stopped and had to cover her mouth to keep from busting out laughing as she saw Lucy sitting on the floor with Kaleb behind her. Filling in the details herself, she knew that Lucy was a jumpy person, so she figured Kaleb scared Lucy right out of her chair. Walking over, she put her stuff on the desk next to Lucy's. "Um Luce...if I'm not mistaken, you're supposed to sit in the chair...not next to it."

Kaleb had thought he was being charming by approaching Lucy with his witty comment about talking to herself. But he didn't expect his statement to go unnoticed and he definitely didn't expect his sudden presence to make Lucy squeal and fall, out of her chair, to the floor. Immediately Kaleb jumped back, startling Lucy had in turn startled him; and that had been the last thing that he wanted to do.
He couldn't help but laugh; when he realized that she was embarrassed he tried his hardest to suppress his laughter. Seconds later he sobered up and felt foolish as he watched her get up and he didn't even offer to help.. 'Could you be any more rude? Scaring her and then not helping her up?' As she stood there apparently trying to catch her breath and calm her nerves Kaleb said, "Oh my gosh, Lucy! I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to scare you! Are you ok?" A momentary flash-back of the look of surprise on her face made Kaleb laugh all over again. Recomposing himself he tried his best to look as sincere as he felt with his apology. "You have no reason to apologize, I'm the one who scared you, remember...and I really am sorry Lucy..."
Then from the corner of his eye he saw Katelyn come in. 'Katelyn must have put two and two together because she sure didn't seem surprised to walk in and see her friend in the floor.' Kaleb chuckled in response to Katelyn's remark and tried so hard not to laugh again. Turning back to Lucy with wide and sincere eyes he offered her another apology. He then sat his notebook on the desk behind Lucy and asked with a grin, "So, um...do you mind if I sit here? Or will I be in danger of scaring you again?"

Kaleb laughed along with the others but a few seconds later he seemed to be more aware of the situation. He started to apologize and tell Lucy she had no reason to apologize. Lucy then noticed Katelyn, ‘Oh talk about the icing on the freaking cake. Note to self run away at lunch and don't stop until you reach Canada.’ Lucy straightened up just as Kate set her stuff down on the desk next to her, "Um Luce...if I'm not mistaken, you're supposed to sit in the chair...not next to it." Lucy rolled her eyes at Katelyn and in an immature move where she temporarily forgot Kaleb was watching; Lucy stuck her tong out at her friend. Lucy had tried to ignore the chuckling that was finally dieing down.
At that point Lucy had a strong desire to ignore Katelyn and took a deep breath to call down. Lucy did not blame Kaleb he did not know Lucy well and he had a reason to laugh at her lack of ability to stay in a chair after being scared. Lucy brushed her bangs from her eyes as she turned to Kaleb. Just as she turned to face him he asked, "So, um...do you mind if I sit here? Or will I be in danger of scaring you again?" Lucy grinned and let out a small laugh before she nodded at the desk that Kaleb had put his stuff on, “Go ahead cowboy just remember not to make any sudden noises,” Lucy relaxed a little and was able to laugh at herself again, “I mean unless you want a repeat performance.” Lucy sat back down and her seat so that she could look at Kaleb and Katelyn at the same time, “How did the first two classes go?”

Lucy finally seemed to be relaxing and stuck her tongue out playfully toward Katelyn's comment. Then turned to Kaleb and laughed at his question and answered, "Go ahead cowboy just remember not to make any sudden noises...I mean unless you want a repeat performance.” Kaleb laughed and sat down then said, "Ahhh, I'll take my chances. And as for my classes, they were great...Not. I am so far behind in math and don't know what the he...ck they were talkin about. He paused and thought to himself, "Watch your mouth" He hated to cuss in front of ladies even in the smallest way, southern hospitality and his mother had taught him better than that. We used a different text back home. And history was alright, I got through it without slipping into the 'classroom coma' like some of the other people did. How about you ladies?"

Lucy was glad that Kaleb thought that what she had said was funny. She was glad that it did not sound as dumb out loud as it did in her head. The sad part was is even though Lucy knew that Kaleb was siting right behind her he would still be able to scare her. ‘Thus the benefit of being jumpy.’ Lucy thought with a sigh. Kaleb was the first one to answer her question about classes. It sounded like he was facing a ruff day. Lucy bit the inside of her cheek as Kaleb came within two letters of a mild curse word. It was funny to Lucy that Kaleb corrected himself and waited a few seconds before talking about his classes. “Yeah I think I have it easier, my Spanish book wasn’t the same we had back in Seattle but the history book was. I think most of the classes will be the same for me though; at least I hope math will be it is a class of the devil.”
Lucy laughed, when Kaleb mentioned classroom coma, “Yeah history was actually kinda fun. No worries about classroom coma here. I might slip into it after lunch though. Lunch will have to be my sanity.” That was true she was going to need some relax time before algebra, but lunch was going to be anything but relaxing. Now that she thought about it then next hour was going to be hell. ‘Damn it to hell in a hand basket. Just try to chill Lucy.’ Lucy started thinking of the James Bond theme song and she turned Katelyn feeling better, “So what about you Kate?”

Katelyn walked over to the desk next to Lucy's and took her seat, watching the little conversation unfold between Kaleb and Lucy, knowing full-well that she and Lucy would be talking about it later on, especially when Kenzie found them. It would be a best friend reunion conversation like none other ever seen before by the likes of mankind. When Lucy asked the general question to both herself and Kaleb, Katelyn decided to join in the conversation herself, especially after Lucy put her on the spot. "French was...well the same as always," she said, shrugging. "And Art went better than I expected. I'm not behind in either class since Seattle school systems are a little ahead of here. But I swear to high heaven I'm thinking of skipping Gym today and it's only my first day!"
Katelyn got out her notebook for class and turned to a blank page so that she could be ready to take notes. Then she turned her attention back to Lucy and Kaleb. "So, lunch is right after this. I think it would be best if we went and found Kenz so we can get the freak out session over with before she finds out from someone else that I'm here," she said, biting back a laugh at the thought of Kenzie finding out through the grapevine that she was attending Forks High.

Lucy shook her head and rolled her eyes at her friend when Katelyn said she was thinking about skipping gym on her first day. “Kate you can’t skip on your first day you know darn well they’ll have all kinds of forms you have to fill out about allergies and stuff.” Katelyn then started talking about lunch, ‘Oh that’s just what you think little buddy.’ Lucy grinned at her friend knowing that Kate would think she’s grinning about Kenzie’s reaction; instead of the real reason being her escape plan at lunch. “Yeah Kenzie is defiantly going to flip out when she sees you.” Lucy would be counting on that as her back up plan; not that her first plan would not work. She was just going to tell Kate and Kaleb that she had to go to the restroom and she would meet them in the cafeteria. After that it would be cake finding a nice patch of grass to sit in and enjoy her lunch. ‘Yay granola bars!’ Lucy thought sarcastically.
((ooc: someone want to start class in the next post? I wasn’t sure if I should or not.))

Before Katelyn could reply to Lucy's comment with a snarky one of her own, the teacher came in and started class. Throughout the first thirty minutes of lecture, Katelyn paid attention mostly. However, the vast majority of the material that they were covering she had already done while she had been in Seattle, so about halfway through the lecture, she checked out entirely and started doodling on her page that was opened in the notebook. After she got bored with that, she decided to write Lucy a little note on the side of her paper.
So...that Kaleb guy is pretty cute! she wrote among the scribbled stars and hearts that lined the sides of her notes. It was almost too easy to target Lucy when they were held in the same classroom for any length of time together. And Katelyn enjoyed every minute of it.

Lucy was paying attention to the teacher for what seemed to be thirty minutes or so. She sighed inside of her head at the thought of what was going to happen in twenty minutes. 'Plan haul ass out.' Lucy focused on the teacher again; even though she knew what the teacher was talking about Lucy's luck the way it was, she would miss something new. A few moments later Lucy noticed Katelyn moving something from the corner of her eye. Lucy waited until the teacher turned his back to the class to write on the board; Lucy leaned over to see Katelyn's drawings. Among the drawings was a one line note, 'So...that Kaleb guy is pretty cute!'
Lucy rolled her eyes and lightly pushed her friends notebook. 'I would rather dive of the school roof then talk about Kaleb on paper.' Lucy thought to herself. She settled back into her seat as the teacher turned around to talk for a few minutes. Lucy took a few notes and waited for the teacher to turn around again. A few minutes later her turned to write lines from a poem on the board. She looked at Kate and whispered, "Focus on class." Lucy knew what Katelyn was doing; Kate had picked up that Lucy was acting out of the norm and she was trying to get to the bottom of it.
Lucy turned back to the front of the room just as the teacher dropped his chalk. Lucy realized that she did not know what the lines were from, 'Freaking figures; I knew I should have listened to the teacher.' Instead of turning to Katelyn and risking the question again Lucy turned and whispered to Kaleb, "Sorry I wasn't paying attention to the teacher; where were those lines from?" 'Wow Luce great way to show the guy you are a good student.' Lucy just hoped that Kaleb would not think of her like a moron, and that he knew what the teacher was talking about.

Kaleb laughed to himself watching the playful banter between Lucy and Katelyn. Just then the teacher came in and started class. As he began talking Kaleb realized that this class was going to be a piece of cake. The teacher began talking about poems as he began the lecture. Fortunately, Kaleb was good in this setting; in spite of his friend's making fun of him he actually enjoyed reading short stories, plays, and poems. The teacher continued lecturing about poems and began writing one on the board, Kaleb recognized it and jotted it down... 'Tiger, tiger, burning bright In the forests of the night, What immortal hand or eye Could frame thy fearful symmetry?' After a moment of recalling the rest of the poem he began to write out the rest of it from memory... In what distant deeps or skies Burnt the fire of thine eyes? On what wings dare he aspire? What the hand dare seize the fire? And what shoulder and what art Could twist the sinews of thy heart? And, when thy heart began to beat, What dread hand and what dread feet?... It was a poem that he had to memorize for his Honors English class back in Texas. "The Tiger" By William Blake was one of his favorites, but in the middle of writing it out, Lucy turned around and said "Sorry I wasn't paying attention to the teacher; where were those lines from?" Kaleb smiled, and tried to nonchalantly hide his paper for fear of her seeing the rest of the poem that he was writing from memory. He whispered back, "It's a poem by William Blake, called 'The Tiger,' what? were you in a classroom coma or something?" Flashing a mischievous grin he leaned back in his chair and forgot that he left his notes open for Lucy to see.

Kaleb smiled at Lucy, ‘Oh my god! This guy is absolutely beautiful; thank you God for bringing him to Forks!’ She didn’t pay attention to the fact that he seemed to subtly cover up his pager. Lucy quickly wrote down the poem’s title and author. As she was writing down the title at the top of her page Lucy heard Kaleb ask if she was in classroom coma; an undignified snort left her mouth. Lucy quickly covered her mouth to stop the laugh that wanted to escape. She turned back to Kaleb trying not to laugh as she whispered, “Oh yeah cowboy totally having a classroom coma over here.” Kaleb was wearing a mischievous grin and was just leaning back in his chair.
It was then that Lucy caught a glance of the paper that Kaleb had been writing on. It was all of the line that their teacher had put on the board, and it looked as though Kaleb was writing out the rest of the poem. ‘Damn dude knows his poetry.’ Lucy looked up at Kaleb with a smirk of her own and tapped his notebook with the top of her pen, “Nice to know someone isn’t suffering from classroom coma.” Lucy turned back around in her seat wearing a grin for the rest of class. Lucy was writing down the homework assignment about the poem analysis and turned to glance at the clock; the infamous lunch bell rang. ‘Oh hell.’ Lucy closed her notebook and got out of her seat, “Hey I have to go to the restroom and run out to my car.” She danced to the side to avoid the other students trying to leave; it was easy for her to pretend if she could skip and dance a little. Lucy called over her shoulder, “See you guys in a bit.”
With that Lucy was out the door, ‘Freedom!’ she thought successfully. Lucy did her best to huddle herself among the other students as she went against the flow. A few moments later Lucy felt her freedom fully as she made it through the doors that led to the parking lot. Instead of going to her car however Lucy went around the side of the building and found a small bench with a bush growing on either side. She sighed and plopped down on the bench, “Time to bust out with the granola bars and juice.” ‘Compared to the alternative this is perfect though.’ Lucy thought. She pulled out her last minute lunch and her English notes to read over since Lucy wasn’t going to be spending time talking to her friends.

Katelyn watched the little interlude between Kaleb and Lucy with some amusement. Oh I am going to give her hell about this later, she thought to herself, chuckling inwardly. And Kenzie as well once she gets over the shock that I'm here... When class ended, she heard Lucy mention that she needed to go to her car for something. Katelyn knew in the back of her mind that it was Lucy's way of bolting from a situation. "That sly little..." she muttered under her breath before turning toward Kaleb. "Well, we won't be seeing her for a while, so I guess we might as well make the best of things and go to lunch," she said. "Besides, I think I'm gonna be distracted enough with my other best friend Kenzie freaking out over the fact that I'm actually here." The last bit made Katelyn laugh and she knew it was true.
