Veronica swallowed. "Well, you know, you could try talking to Jasper and see what he wants. That is, unless you don't want him back." Some person she is if she says no to that statement, Veronica thought taking another bite. This was getting dumber and dumber as it went on. Why couldn't everyone just kiss and make up already?!

Bella shook her head, "I have tried talking to Jasper to knock some sense into that thick skull of his, but he won't hear any of it." In truth, Bella knew that Jasper was in the phase of if he didn't get his way, it was no way at all. That was a stupid move on his part in her opinion because they all wanted him to stay in the family, but he just could not accept that his marriage to Alice was over and that she did not want him that way any longer. That was just a part of life that he was going to have to learn to accept if he wanted anything to return to some semblance of normalcy.
"Jasper is stubborn and refuses to see anything for the way it is now; he wants things to go back to the way they were before Alice left in the first place, but he also knows in the back of his mind that it will never happen that way," she explained, making circles on the tile of the table with her finger to keep her focused on something. "I have tried to explain it to him as did Alice, but he is stubborn and does not listen to good reason."

Veronica sat her fork down as she swallowed another portion of her meal and took a drink of water. "Look," she said, finishing her swallow, "He's an emotion controller, right? Alexandra told me a little about his history. He was charismatic when he was human, correct?" She didn't wait for an answer. "Well, maybe, because of this whole situation, he doesn't feel like his charismatic self anymore because no one is listening to what he want. Even if it'll never be." She picked her fork back up again, looking down and stuck it into her food. "I'm just saying. It's possible."

Bella shook her head. "Ronnie, that is the problem...we have listened to what he wants, but he just does not want to accept that it will never be that way again," she explained, feeling like she had said this same sentence five hundred times before. If it was one thing Bella did not like, it was going over the same thing a million times when it was easy to understand the first time it was said. "Jasper wants things to be the way they were before Alice left and that is just not possible. My sister is not in love with him anymore, not after all that happened. And Jasper just cannot accept that, which is no one's fault but his own."

"Have you ever considered science? I mean, I'm sure you vampires have your own type of science and some strange molecules or something like that affected him when all this started. Like a human getting high off of Sharpie fumes, or something." She took a drink of water. "Maybe something got Jasper high and confused." Then, Veronica realized something. "I'm not defending him, I'm just saying that it's a big possiblity."

Bella sat back and thought about what Veronica said; while it was a plausible theory, she really did not think that it was the case. "If that was the case, then it should have worn off by now and he should be acting like he always did," she explained. "The reaction should have only been when he tried to use his powers on Lexie. The aftermath should have been over and he should be moving on instead of trying to keep holding onto the past that will never be again." Bella shook her head. Jasper was still holding onto Alice and she knew that, but in order for anything to get better Bella also knew that he needed to get over it.

Veronica swallowed her last bite. "Didn't he once tell everyone that he couldn't let go of the past. Didn't Alice bring him into a whole new light from what that Maria chick did to him?" From what Ronnie understood, Jasper's sire, Maria, sent him to hell and back during his first century. Alice was his savior.

Sighing deeply, Bella looked her cousin in her eyes; that innocent human doe-eyed expression that Veronica gave quite often. It was not uncommon for her to do it naturally. Bella understood that because apparently she did the same thing when she was human. "Even if Jasper can't let go of the past, he is going to learn how to or he is never going to be happy again," she said indefinitely. "He cannot keep holding grudges for things that are far gone and over with. Yes Maria made his life a living hell, but he should have let go of that when he met Alice. And if he's still holding onto that after a century of being with Alice, then he has some serious issues. Bella shook her head again.
"Ronnie, I don't expect you to understand all that happened because you are not vampire and do not know this family the way I do, but I will ask you to understand this," she said gently, folding her hands on the table again. "Jasper made his own decisions and now he is paying for them with the consequences, regardless of if it was intentional or not. He is not the man I once knew as my brother and that is all I know."

Bella was missing the whole point. "Oh I understand completely Bella. See, it seems that everyone else in the family is okay when they make mistakes except Jasper." She threw her fork down after playing with it and crossed her arms. "From what I understand, everyone pointed the finger at Jasper for Alice leaving. And now, everyone points the finger at him for sleeping with my sister when it was A) unintentional, B) something he had no control over if he couldn't control her emotions and C) my sister's fault in the first place."

Bella shook her head at Veronica, "It takes two to tango, so Jasper has to take some fault in the situation regardless of if it was intentional or not. I'm not putting the blame entirely on him, but he did need to take responsibility for his actions and what did happen." Moving her hands back to her lap, she looked at her cousin with the utmost kindness, trying not to be fierce or angry. "Those babies needed their father and Jasper was going to skip out on them, which is not the gentleman thing to do. It was not how he was raised to be in his human life, nor how he was back when I knew him as my brother."

Veronica sighed, swinging her head back to the left, then back to Bella. "Alright. Whatever you say. I'm just trying to understand logic." The waitor came up to her and asked her if she would like dessert. "No thank you. I'll take the check now." The waitor nodded and walked away. Veronica looked to Bella. "So, what now? Like, where does everyone stand?"

Watching as Veronica paid for her meal and turned back toward her, Bella stayed pretty silent. Then Veronica asked the question of where everyone stood in the family, so she had to answer. "Right now, everyone is pretty focused on Renesmee for the time being," she said. "With the baby's due date getting closer, everyone is worried about her safety and the safety of the baby too. As far as the other side of things, no one is really talking much about that." Talking about Jasper was a pretty sore subject for everyone in the family, especially Rosalie and Alice. Both were irritated that he would just walk away from everything like that, especially Rosalie. She was beyond furious and Bella knew that.

Veronica sighed again. "Good luck with that." The waitor came back with the bill and Veronica handed him a 20 dollar bill. "No change." The waitor thanked her and bidded both ladies a good day before walking away. Veronica stood. "So, I was thinking shopping next. Follow me to the mall?"

Bella was glad that the interrogation about the family was over because, in all honesty, she was tired of talking about it. She needed something else to thing about and even though she really detested shopping, she knew it would take her mind off everything else. "I think I will come," she said, getting up from the table. "I need to get something for Nessie's baby shower that I forgot to pick up anyways, so going to the mall would be perfect to pick it up." Bella started to walk out of the restaurant toward her car so that they could leave.

Veronica grinned. "Good. See you there." She walked outside and got in her car. She listened to Yankee Grey on the way there, taking her CD out of the player. She made it to the mall in record time. She waited for Bella before getting out.
