Aviary was sort of unsure how her great plan would work. She thought about each detail long and hard on her way to Cody’s house. Aviary did not want to risk waking up the rest of the household in her plot to surprise Cody that morning, so she thought long and hard about what she was going to be doing exactly. Throwing rocks at the window were so outdated she thought, instead she had a better idea. Pulling threw Cody’s drive away she did a perimeter check around the house to try to figure out which room was his. Aviary inspected each window to choose which one she thought was Cody’s. After finally spotting one that looked like it belonged to a teenage boy she picked up the first water balloon and chunked it at the window. It broke, but she had the feeling that maybe it was not hard enough. She threw a few more, without a successful response.
“Time for plan b.” she mumbled as she headed back to her car. “Jell-O, is not just for eating anymore.” she said with a smirk as she picked up one of the Jell-O filled balloons. Throwing several at the window she was convinced that it created a much louder and unusual sound. “This had better work.” She said chunking the third Jell-O filled balloon at the window.

It had been an exhausting night for Cody. He had gone out into the woods with his dad, his father's friend, and another friend from school to go paintballing, which was one of his favorite pastimes. They had started the tradition when Cody was just seven-years-old, so he was happy to carry it on as he got older so long as his dad was willing to compete with him. They had taken night-vision goggles, their air-soft paintball guns, and plenty of paintballs to keep them occupied. All during the night Cody and his friend had run co-op missions versus his dad and his father's friend Paul from work. They were massacred in the process, losing miserably by four am. By the time Cody got home and showered, it was almost five. He had crawled into bed, knowing he would be bruised in the morning, but it was well worth it.
A few hours later, he woke to the sound of splat, splat, splat on his window. Mumbling something inaudible, he thought he was dreaming of paintballing and simply rolled over again. Within minutes, he heard harder splats, but dismissed them as dreaming about more paintballing. He grabbed his pillow and curled it up under his head before falling back into a deep sleep, dreaming about Aviary. She was quite frequently in his dreams now that they were dating, but he didn't mind that at all. It was a good thing to go to sleep to at night, knowing that his dreams would be pleasant.

Frustrated Aviary waked back to her car and grabbed her last and final plan at waking Cody. “ I really hate to do this to you, but you asked for it.” she said shaking her head. Looking up at the distance between her and his window she gave a sigh. Lucky for her there was a ladder not too far away, leaning against the shed to the right of the house. She grabbed it, leaned it against the house, with a small brown bag clutched between her hands. Once Aviary had successfully managed to scale the house, she peered into the window and smiled as she saw how completely out of it Cody was. She quietly undid the window and climbed into the room.
For a few moments, she just tip toed around his bed, watching him sleep. Aviary felt bad for about what she was going to do, but she had to admit it would be rather funny. She pulled the small red blow horn from the brown paper bag, closed her eyes and pressed down the lever. The nose was loud, and sharp and Aviary would be very surprised if Cody did not wake up. Aviary had her eyes closed, not knowing what to expect from Cody as his reaction.

After falling back into a deep sleep, Cody dreamt he was out in the woods with Aviary. They were laughing and running on the paths together, with him chasing her. After a while, he finally caught up to her and semi-tackled her to the ground, tickling her sides with his fingers. She was laughing so hard she was turning bright pink. He couldn't help but smile as the sound of her laugh was like music to his ears. Once they stopped, he had her pinned to the ground and leaned in for a kiss. Just before his lips touched hers, Cody felt his body jolt him out of dreamland as he flopped from his bed to the hard, carpeted floor below him.
Landing on the floor, he started cursing audibly and somewhat in a muffled tone as he tried to decipher what had just happened. "What the hell?" Automatically, his mind went to Emery. She was exactly the sort of person who would do this to him while he was sleeping. Looking up, however, he was completely shocked. Standing in front of him was his girlfriend, holding the air horn that had just roused him from his sleep. He grabbed his blanket to wrap around his waist as he was only wearing boxers. His chest was bare and covered with bruises from last night's game, but he was still trying to figure out why his girlfriend was in his bedroom this early on a Saturday. "Baby, how did you get in here?" he asked, running his hand through his hair as he stood up.

“Magic” she replied with a grin, walking towards with intense pride in her success. Aviary was very happy her plan at worked, and she had to keep from laughing. Every once in a while she would just burst out laughing and then try to claim herself down. “I’m sorry.” she finally admitted. “I guess that was going a little too far, but I thought I would surprise you, and well I see it worked.” She quickly put her hand up to her mouth as if to shove the laughter back down. “ I can let you get dressed if you want.” She said looking down at his blanket covered waist. “I promise I won’t look.” She said placing her hands over her eyes and turning around.
Another smile spread across Aviary’s face, she was glad that Cody did not go completely mad because of what she did, but she enjoyed these types of pranks and had a feeling that Cody understood. Aviary made a mental not to herself to start thinking of other creative ways to prank her new boyfriend. she hoped that she would not chase him off though.

Cody tried to fake an angry face, but with Aviary it just didn't work very well. She was too adorable to stay angry with. And he knew that what she had done was actually quite cute. If Emery had done it, he would have been pissed beyond reproach, but since it was his girlfriend he didn't mind so much. As she apologized, he couldn't help but grin as she covered her eyes. In truth, he could care less because she was his girlfriend, but she obviously felt bad about it. Tucking in the blanket so it made sort of a wrap, he walked over behind Aviary and wraped his arms around her waist. Leaning down, he kissed the nape of her neck.
"You did surprise me," he murmured in her ear, "Quite a bit actually." He chuckled and turned her around to face him, removing her hands from her eyes. Staring into those gorgeous hazel orbs, he knew that there was no better way to wake up on a Saturday morning than this, even if he was battered and exhausted. This made it all worth while. Softly kissing her lips once, he wrapped his arms around to the small of her back. "You know...I'm just really glad it's you and not my sister...because if you were my sister, I'd be chasing you out of this room with a broom or something." He laughed again, knowing how true it was.

Aviary smile as she felt Cody’s arms around her. “Speaking of your sister, I hope I did not wake anybody else.” she started to laugh. “That would be a strange way to meet to rest of your family.” She said kissing him. She turned around so she could face them. “Ready for today?” she said with a wide grin. “unless you really want to go back to sleep.” she said in a very sarcastic voice. Aviary kissed Cody on the forehead again before walking over to the window where she had climbed in from.
Peering out the window, Aviary tried to read the clouds to determine what kind of day it would be. She was so used to the Texas weather changing every five minutes, that this whole concept of things staying the same was new to her. from the looks of things it seemed like it would only get colder, and there might be some rain. “ I would wear a jacket.” She said calling back to Cody. “ it was pretty cold this morning, looks like it will only get colder.” Aviary was not sure what she wanted to do with Cody, but she thought that it would be intersting to let cody pick. " oh by the way you get to pick what we are doing." she added

Cody could only laugh at the mortifying thought of his sister or parents walking in at that moment with him half-naked and his girlfriend in the room after she had obvioulsy snuck in to wake him up. He knew that Emery would make some sarcastic comment that would embarrass him to no end. That was his only concern with that whole situation. Otherwise, he was completely comfortable with the fact that his girlfriend was in his room...at eight am...on a Saturday. When she walked over to the window, he saw her mode of entry and chuckled. Aviary was definitely the intuitive type that used her options well. As she commented on the weather for the day and how it was his turn to pick what they did, Cody smiled.
Sitting down on his bed, he sifted through his list of options, which were highly limited considering Forks was a microscopic town in the middle of nowhere Washington. They had already gone to the diner, so that was out for the time being. He had overheard some other kids talking about a reservation nearby where there was a beach. That was an option, but considering it was so cold, he knew that it was preferable they were inside for most of the day. Then he remembered the same kids also talking about a place called Port Angeles, which was about an hour's drive away. He knew that there was bound to be some places to explore there that were more interesting than Forks. "What about going to Port Angeles?" he asked. "Maybe we'll find some stuff there and we could have lunch too."

As Cody thought about places to go, Aviary stared out the window for a bit, watching of the wind was slightly blowing through the trees. Every once in a while she would glance back over at Cody and smile, to let him know that she was not ignoring him, just passing the time. Finally Aviary decided to sit over next to the bed by him. When Cody finally suggested a place, Aviary’s face lit up with excitement. “That sounds like a wonderful idea to me.” Aviary got up instantly and walked over to a mirror to make sure she looked ok, as if the last two minutes might have drastically messed up her make-up. Aviary was discovering she was becoming more self conscious the more she was around Cody.
Aviary was really looking forward to spending the day with Cody. She could barely contain her excitement. “Why don’t you hurry and put some real clothes on.” she said rising an eyebrow as faint laughter escaped from her lips. "I can leave if you want me too." She started to walk back to the window jokingly.

Today was the perfect day to sleep in; and that's exactly what Emery had planned on doing. Last night Cody, his father and some friends of theirs all went out for some late night paint balling and while they had fun shooting and bruising one another, Emery had some fun of her own. She had met a few girls at school and invited them over to watch chick-flicks, and Cody's mother had joined them and made awesome midnight snacks. It was originally supposed to be a whole sleep over thing but, instead, the girls went home after the movie. This didn't bother Emery at all because that just meant that she got to sleep in, instead of having to entertain company when they woke up.
As she rolled around in bed, still asleep, she began to dream. She kept hearing different sounds. It was a plethora of sounds and colors, and colors that coordinated with sounds, and then there were shapes and doodles all floating around in her head. It began with a few random beats and then it exploded into a song that she had never heard before. Unknowingly her foot began to tap in time with the music and the colors became more vibrant. She was having a blast, the music was that of a big band, orchestra and it was a really catchy tune.
Suddenly, however, the music took a turn for the worse. The music became sullen, and morose. The colors faded into charcoaled colors and the shapes edges began to smear and became fuzzy. Her foot tapping slowed and her mood went from excited enjoyment to depressed in a matter of mere seconds. She began to wonder if it was a dream that correlated to the loss of her parents, and what she had been going through, when the music started to pick up tempo once more. It was still pretty slow, compared to the original song but the notes were becoming more cheerful. As she waited to see if the first song would come back and make her happy again she listened carefully...and then suddenly all she could hear was a loud and very annoying sound. It was constant, and obnoxious. The sound jerked her body which then woke her up and she realized that the sound she just heard had come from her brother's room, next door to her own. 'Cody, I'm NOT happy that you just woke me up at..." she glanced at her clock and groaned, 'freaking 8 a.m." She flung her feet out of her bed and marched to her door, down the short hallway, and into her adopted brother's room and was about to give him a piece of her mind when she saw the scene in front of her.
Cody and a girl. Some girl and Cody. "Dakota Wade Reynolds." She said slowly and incredulously. She could not believe what she was seeing. Cody...obviously NOT dressed for the day...or for anything in that matter, was sitting in his boxers, and there was a girl near his window who seemed to be a little too comfortable with the fact that her brother was...only wearing boxers. 'Hmmmm, this is certainly interesting.' She crossed her arms in front of her, non-verbally demanding an explanation for why she had been woken up from her dream, and especially why there was a girl in Cody's room.

Cody smiled as Aviary loved his idea and laughed lightly as she jumped up to check herself in the mirror. He always wondered why girls were so self-conscious about their appearance in front of guys. Even Emery did that whenever there was a "cute" guy anywhere within fifty yards of her. He just figured that it was one of those girl things that he would never understand, so he never attempted to in the first place. As she turned around and suggested he put on some real clothes, hu chuckled and nodded his head in agreement. "Yeah, that sounds like a good idea..." he agreed. "But you don't have to leave, I'll just grab my clothes and throw them on."
Before he could make any sort of move toward his dresser or closet, he heard the voice of his sister calling his full name. "Oh shit..." he muttered as he realized how bad this probably looked with him in his boxers and a girl in his room. Turning toward Emery, he put his hands up defenseively, as if to wave the white flag. "I know that this looks bad...but it's not what you think," he began, stuttering through the words in his head. "Emery, this is my girlfriend Aviary. Aviary, this is my sister Emery." He knew that this had to be the most terrible introduction in the history of mankind. Shit, shit, shit... he screetched in his head, knowing if Emery told his parents about this, he would be deader than dead, regardless of if anything had happened between him and Aviary or not...which it hadn't. "Aviary just decided to sneak attack me while I was sleeping so we could hang out today," he explained. "I had no idea she was coming over and no intentions of letting anything happen." Standing there for a minute, he grabbed a pair of pants from the floor and pulled them on quickly as he felt incredibly awkward now standing in the room with his girlfriend and sister in only boxers.

Aviary was slightly startled when Emery came into the room. Shit I was afraid this was going to happen she thought. Aviary was frozen and her face started to turn red out of pure embarrassment. As soon as Cody started taking Aviary began to feel a little bit better. Aviary thought it might be wise to at least defend her reasoning during this very awkward meeting. “In all honesty it looks a lot worse than it actually is.” she said slowly glance back and forth from Cody to his sister. “ It was just a kind of prank I wanted to pull on your brother I guess, I did not really intend on waking anyone else up.” she said sheepishly. She thought that this all sounded dumb coming out of her mouth because of course a blow horn would be loud enough to wake other people up, she would be lying to herself to think it would and only would wake Cody up. “ If it makes you feel more comfortable, I can wait outside while your brother gets dressed all the way.” she glanced back at Cody who now at least had pants on.
Aviary started for the door but stopped to at least greet Cody’s sister. “ I’m Aviary Hart by the way.” she smiled and tried to act like what just happened did not. Aviary could still feel that her face was very warm and assumed that it was most likely still red. All Aviary could do now was pray and hope for the best.

"Oh, no, no, no...please, by all means. Don't let me intrude...I'll just be going now." Emery was now in a place of power. She had blackmail material. Not that she would use it to be completely evil, or for no reason...but because she could now at least have a chance of changing Cody's mind the next time he decided that he was going to pull a prank on her or be mean or something.
Her eyes were hard, and yet at the same time they shone with a mock expression. She wasn't mad, she wasn't upset, she was, however, shocked, and annoyed. Shocked, because Emery hadn't heard mention from Cody that he even had a girlfriend, and was annoyed because she was conscious before 10:30 a.m. Mostly, she was shocked, and when the two defensively replied that they "...know that it looks bad, but it's not what you think" and “In all honesty it looks a lot worse than it actually is" she knew that nothing really had gone on, she trusted her brother to make smart decisions, and from the way things had unfolded so far, she still trusted him, and for whatever reason, the stranger in front of her…for now at least.
'Aviary, hmm, what a strange name…it's an awesome name too though.' She thought. "Hm, I'm Emery Gardner, strange to meet you…I mean, nice to meet you. Yeah, so, I guess I'll be seeing you around more often then huh? She began to slowly back her way out of Cody's room and stood in the doorframe, to give them one last awkward look. She knew the look on her face must be priceless, and did her best not to laugh, for fear of ruining her façade

Cody sifted through his clothes until he found a clean shirt and threw it on. Now that he was fully clothed, it was a little less awkward than standing there in his boxers. As Aviary took over explanation, he knew that his sister was never going to let him live this down as long as they lived. That was made perfectly clear in the look she gave him and how sarcastic she was in her own reply. Sitting on his bed, he found a pair of his shoes and socks and threw them on before standing up and sticking his hands in the front pocket of his jeans. He knew that his sister believed them by the look on her face, but there was still the 'I'm so going to use this against you whenever I can' look that was right underneath it. Cody knew Emery too well to believe otherwise.
"Well..." he said uncomfortably, looking between his girlfriend and sister, "now that this has been completely awkward, I guess you can go back to sleep Emery while Aviary and I head out for the day." He was hoping and praying that Emery would let this lie for now and he would talk to her later about it. It was bad enough that she had walked in on him in his room with his girlfriend in nothing but boxers, so he just wanted to get the hell out of there and forget it ever happened for a while. Later, he would probably laugh about it, but for now...he was thoroughly embarrassed.

Aviary waited for what felt like a lifetime. The palms of her heads were sweating and she was somewhat too embarrassed to even look at Emery. She knew that as soon as Cody and her left things would be better, even though she was sure thing would be slightly awkward for them for the first few moments they were together alone. Aviary was awfully quiet, so quiet that it even freaked her out she was not talking anymore. As soon and Cody was dressed she went straight to his side and apologized once more to Emery. “Sorry about everything.” She said blushing as her eyes wandered to the ground.
Aviary had to rate this probably the most embarrassing moment of her life. She wanted to crawl into a hole for about a couple of months. She was at least relieved that Cody knew exactly how it felt though; there is always some kind of comfort in knowing you’re not experiencing things solely on your own.
