Lucy could not believe the amazing time that she was having with Kaleb already and they had not even really done anything. For what seemed to be the millionth time she had to fight back an excited squeal when Kaleb winked at her. Lucy laughed when Kaleb spoke, "Sure thang, pretty lady. Let's get this show on the road!" After watching what happened to Kenzie because of her ex boyfriend Jerron it turned Lucy off to guys in general. She was perfectly happy being single, but the more that she seemed to get to know Kaleb the more she couldn’t help day dreaming about him. Kaleb linked arms with her and Lucy did not even bother with the impossible task of trying to shrink her smile.
Lucy giggled as Kaleb began singing a familiar tune and she hummed along softly until they reached the cool shade where he politely asked her to wait for him while he went to get the horses. Lucy took the few moments to take in everything around her. It amazed her how open everything actually was and how fresh everything around her was. She took a deep breath relaxing just as Kaleb reached her leading the two horses. Kaleb then told her to put the lunch basket down and he could help Lucy onto her horse. ‘Oh crap I have to ride the over grown dog. Don’t panic just breath.’ Lucy chanted to herself as she set the basket down. She tried to settle herself down, ‘Lucy it will be just fine. Kaleb won’t let you fall Luce, just trust him.’ Lucy was almost to Kaleb is was getting to the point of no return.
‘Kaleb could easily catch you if you did fall, he isn’t some noodle arm, city boy.’ Lucy caught herself in the middle of day dream world when she stopped a couple of steps away from Kaleb. She sighed to exhale all of the tension left inside of herself saying, ‘Cowboy would catch you.’ Lucy put her hands on either end of the saddle and with Kaleb’s boost she pulled herself into the saddle. She was not sure what it was called but there was a part of the saddle sticking up and she held onto it with both of her hands. Lucy laughed a little nervously, “Not too bad for a city-slicker am I?”

She seemed to be enjoying herself. She sat the picnic basket down on the ground and walked over, psyching herself up she took a deep breath and stepped into his hands and threw her other leg up and over the saddle. Thankfully she grabbed the horn of the saddle to steady herself and said “Not too bad for a city-slicker am I?” Smiling Kaleb replied, "Naw, not bad at all... He walked over to Remmy and patted his nose lovingly. He grabbed the picnic basket and then hiked his foot up into the stirrup and threw his other leg over the saddle; he settled in and balanced the basket carefully and said "Alrighty now, to get her to walk just nudge her side with your feet, and here are the reigns, unless you want me to hold on to them for a while?"

Kaleb flashed Lucy a smile saying that she wasn’t doing bad at all. She was able to relax thinking of Kaleb’s smile so Lucy was able to pay attention to his instructions and she was able to answer his question. “Um in theory I think I can handle it.” Lucy said. She gave a nervous laugh and felt a small grin creep along her face, “As long as I don’t look down I think I’ll be good.” Lucy held the reigns firmly in her hand thinking, ‘It would be a cold day in hell before I drop these things.’ She gave a small grin to Kaleb and did what he had told her to do to move Luna forward. Luna went forward a few steps and stopped when Lucy instinctively pulled back on the reigns. At that point she was thankful that she was an only child because, she was the son and the daughter for her parents. One of the things that, that included was watching old cowboy films with her father. After swallowing down her heart Lucy was able to smile and pat the side of Luna’s neck, “Nice horsy.” She looked over at Kaleb, “Let’s hope the rest of it is that easy. So should I follow you?”Lucy's Outfit: www.polyvore.com/lucy_casual/set?id=9645826

"Haha, Nice Horsey," Kaleb repeated in a teasing tone. "Don't worry about the rest of it, just try and keep your cool, and you really won't have to steer her too much, she'll follow Remmy where ever he goes; they've been together for a long time. But if you do need to steer here's the deal...if you wanna go to the right, pull gently on the right reign. To go left, you pull the reign in your left hand....carefully though."
He smiled a great big smile and clicked his tongue to spur Remmy on just a tad, as he headed toward the trail behind his house. It was a short trail that led through a thicket of woods and back out into a clearing where the rest of his family's cows were. 'We'll just go to the opposite end, but we'll stay along the treeline...I can show her the rocks and we can eat there.' He quickly thought to himself. Just as they were approaching the small clearing he brought back his mock tour guide voice and said "And looking to your right you'll see our cows...um, eating in their natural habitat....Ok, yeah, I suck at being a tour guide. I'm gonna take you to the rocks down here, it's really a neat place that I found the other day."

Lucy wore a mock glare as she stuck her tongue out at Kaleb when he teased her saying ‘nice horsey’. She nodded her head as Kaleb explained that she just needed to keep her cool and how Lucy would not have to steer. Kaleb then gave her the instructions on how to steer Luna if she needed to. Lucy grinned as she saw Kaleb’s face break into a smile as he lead her behind his house and onto a small trail. After a couple of minutes Lucy was able to relax and she reached in front and patted Luna’s neck whispering, “Thanks for being calm.” Lucy sat back in time to listen as Kaleb took on the role of a tour guide. Lucy laughed when Kaleb said he sucked at being a tour guide. “Oh you are doing fine.” Kaleb then explained where they were headed to; Lucy looked ahead see the rocks that he had been ridding to. Lucy was glad in the back of her thoughts that Luna knew what she was doing because Lucy was getting side tracked by everything that was around her. She could feel the look of awe on her face as she said, “You defiantly never see anything like this in the big city.”

"Yeah, this place is definitely beautiful. I wasn't expecting much when we moved up here, to be honest. I still think that I would like to move back to Texas someday, but for now, this perty little place is quite homey." Kaleb stole a sideways glance at Lucy and couldn't help but notice the look of awe in her expressions. 'Good idea, Cowboy.' He smiled again, completely at peace and sighed. "It sure is a nice day, it actually feels like summer now."
Kaleb allowed the horses to take their time, and took in his surroundings. The sunshine peeked through the canopy of trees and lit up everything in a brilliant green. A few minutes later when he got close enough to the rocks, Kaleb hopped off of his horse and grabbed the side of Luna's bridle and gently guided the two horses to one side of the rocks and looked up at Lucy and said, Well, here we are ma'am, may I have your reigns please, and then I'll help you down."

Lucy was getting so into her surroundings she almost missed Kaleb talking about how much the area was growing on him. She sighed internally though at the idea of Kaleb moving back to Texas, and figured if he was going to go back then he would probably go back after high school. ‘Talk about bummer.’ Lucy thought, ‘Don’t get too bummed Luce you are having a great time with him now and you are in a beautiful place.’ Lucy looked around with a smile enjoying everything around her. Lucy laughed when she heard Kaleb say it actually felt like summer, “Yeah but I’m pretty sure it isn’t anything like the summers you had back in Texas.”
A few minutes passed by and Lucy noticed that Kaleb had gotten off of his horse and led them the last few steps to the rocks. Lucy then realized what Kaleb was going to have her do that seemed to be the other impossible task of the day getting off Luna. ‘Oh shit. Please God if you are listening help me with this.’ Kaleb then spoke the impossible words, “Well, here we are ma'am, may I have your reigns please, and then I'll help you down." Lucy sighed in her head as she handed the reigns to Kaleb, ‘Luce you can do this you are a graceful dancer you can get off of the horse.’ Lucy swung her leg carefully around and tried to slip down from Luna. Tried, became the operative word as Lucy felt herself completely loose her balance and start to fall.

Kaleb took the reigns from Lucy and turned around and loosely tied them to a tree. As he turned back around to help Lucy down he saw her in the midst of swinging her leg over and try to slide down off of Luna. He immediately began run the few paces to close the gap between them, held out his hands and braced himself as he knew he would need to catch her. She had lost her balance and would definitely be needing help.
The timing couldn't have been any better; just as he reached her he saved her with one hand catching her behind her back and sweeping her to the side so that his other arm caught her behind her knees. Standing there, shocked and proud that he had been able to keep her safe, all he could do was stare. Stare at her face, her beautiful face. All of the sudden as his chest filled up with air again, he stammered, "I....I told you I wo...would help you down." His eyes held a look of worry and anxiousness, Are you ok?" He whispered. He didn't want to put her down, holding her, just being close to her, just felt....right.

‘Okay Luce breathe. Okay breathing check, now think about what is going on. I can only see my eyelids, so I should probably open my eyes but it doesn’t hurt yet. Wait a second…’ It was then that Lucy thought about what was going on the world around her. She felt an arm curled under her legs and an arm wrapped around her back. She still did not want to open her eyes just yet as she tried to process what had just happened. Lucy felt herself leaning against something warm but strong, and with that thought she realized that she had her arms wrapped around something. ‘Okay Luce think about this for a second.’
“Oh!” She opened her eyes to realize that she had not fallen to the ground like she had thought, but instead Kaleb had come to her rescue. Lucy realized that she was staring at Kaleb, and she knew that it was probably rude to stare, but Lucy did not care right then. She heard Kaleb distantly saying something about he was going to help her down and Lucy. She could have thought of something witty but Lucy was completely lost in how blissfully perfect the moment was. Lucy finally came back to the real world when she saw the concern in Kaleb’s stunning blue eyes, and she was able to actually hear him as he asked if she was alright.
Part of Lucy was telling her not to say anything at the risk of breaking the magical moment, but unfortunately her sense was starting to kick in. “Um yeah I think so.” ‘Oh real smart Luce. At least I answered him!’ She mentally argued with herself. After a few seconds Lucy felt herself relax and she rested her forehead against Kaleb’s chest. Lucy slowly caught her breath, “Note to self cannot get off a horse without a knight in shinning armor to save me.” The only thing that was keeping her face from burning as red as the sun was the fact that she felt perfectly safe in Kaleb’s arms.

Lucy finally answered him, he needed to hear reassurance from her that she was not harmed. Watching her intently he waited...“Um yeah I think so.” Was her response and then after a few moments she began to relax as her head rolled into Kaleb's chest. Then she said "Note to self cannot get off a horse without a knight in shinning armor to save me.” Kaleb smiled a half smile but couldn't say anything...
He was in awe. He didn't know what to say, he was still catching his breath as well, but feeling Lucy's arms around his neck and her head against his chest made him feel stronger somehow. He began to back away from Luna, very slowly, turned slightly, then gently and reluctantly set Lucy back up on her feet. Still standing there with his arm around her back to be a support as she got her balance once more, he looked into her beautiful eyes and said "As long as you're ok, I'm ok." and managed to nod his head and wink at her, to let her know he meant it.

Lucy realized that she had probably made her knight in shining armor comment a little too loud, but her heart rate was getting back to normal, so she did not care. She was aware enough to realize that Kaleb was slowly stepping away from Luna and he carefully set Lucy back onto her own feet. Lucy let her arms drop from Kaleb’s neck as her hands slid down his arms that he still had wrapped around her. ‘Just breath Luce, you are perfectly safe now.’ Lucy thought to herself. Lucy was trying to focus on something to say to Kaleb along the lines of thank you for saving her ass; literally. "As long as you're ok, I'm ok." Kaleb said to her adding on a wink.
With the nod and wink Kaleb chased away any lingering fear of nearly falling off of a horse. Lucy felt a grin finally crack her face as she looked up at Kaleb, “Well now that we can check me being a goof, off of today’s list why don’t we go eat?” Lucy realized that she still had her hands resting on Kaleb’s arms which happened to be still around her back. She finally began to dawn on her that she was standing in the arms of one of the best looking, and sweetest guys that she had ever met. Lucy finally found the reason and common sense and allowed for her arms to fall to her side. She then reluctantly stepped out of Kaleb’s arms. ‘Maybe I should fall off the horse when we get back; oh don’t be so stupid Lucy. You got flat out lucky that you didn’t break a leg or something worse.’

A tingling sensation went through Kaleb as Lucy slid her hands from around his neck, over his shoulders, and down his arms. They stood, still so comfortably close for a few more moments. Then Lucy's face lit up in a bright smile and she said “Well now that we can check me being a goof, off of today’s list why don’t we go eat?” Then, as she dropped her arms from resting on Kaleb's arms, and stepped away she looked as if she were lost in thought. "Hey, don't worry about it, I'll let you know when you're being goofy. I get that way myself, takes one to know one right? Anyways, yes, eating sounds like a great idea, I'm starving!"
Kaleb walked over to Remmy, where the picnic basket was amazingly still balancing on his back, grabbed it and then turned and looked at Lucy. He paused for a moment, wondering if he should hold her hand again, 'Yep, I'mma do it...if she don't like it, she's a big girl and she can tell me no. ' He started to walk past Lucy, and as he did, he slid his hand into hers with the most natural feeling in the world. Then before moving again, he paused and turned to Lucy "So Luce, where would you like to sit? The place is empty, you can take your pick. We can sit on the rocks, by the rocks, under the rocks...oh, maybe not. Over by those trees?" he said jokingly.

Lucy laughed when Kaleb said, "Hey, don't worry about it, I'll let you know when you're being goofy. I get that way myself, takes one to know one right? Anyways, yes, eating sounds like a great idea, I'm starving!” She shook her head saying, “I don’t know I seem to become a complete klutz around you.” ‘Oh wow Luce that sounded really close to a confession.’ “Anyways let’s get you some food then Cowboy. If we let you starve out here then I’m stuck; I mean cuz we both know I can‘t get on a horse, or off a horse for that matter by myself.” Lucy laughed to herself and scratched the back of her head as Kaleb went to get the picnic basket that was still balancing on his horse. She then started to look around and smiled as she remembered how beautiful Washington could actually be. Lucy felt herself jump slightly when someone held onto her hand.
A split second later Lucy turned and realized that is was just Kaleb holding her hand. Lucy fought back a grin while she thought in a sign-songy voice, ‘Kaleb’s holding my hand, Kaleb’s holding my hand.’ Lucy felt a smile in place as Kaleb asked where she would like to sit. ‘Lucy he asked a question you need to try and stay in the real world.’ Lucy said to herself, ‘But Kaleb is so amazing and he’s holding MY hand. And he called me Luce!’ Lucy looked up at Kaleb with a grin part of it from his joking about eating under the rocks, but the majority of it coming from the fact that she was holding his hand. Hopefully it wasn’t too obvious the biggest reason behind her grin, “What if we go sit on the rocks and enjoy the Washington sun while it last?”

"In the sun it is!...You know, in Texas, you could sit out and want to enjoy the sun and wind up burnt to a crisp in about 15 minutes." He smiled and led her over to the most "comfortable" looking rock and helped her find a seat. Before finding his own he put down the picnic basket and started unloading the foods and drinks. Semi-copying his check list he made earlier he said "Drinks, Lemonade. Check. Sandwiches and the fixins. Check. Chips. Check. fruit salad, yuuum. check. and last but not least, wonderful company. Double check. Go on and dig in!"
Laughing to himself he took a look around and finally found a comfortable spot himself. His stomach let out a loud rumbling sound and he automatically jerked his head towards Lucy in embarrassment, hoping that it wasn't as loud as he thought it had been. Raising one eyebrow he tried to change the subject and said "So, tell me about yourself, what do I not know about Miss Lucy Daniels?" He then happily started making his sandwich and turned his full attention to the beautiful wonder in front of him.

Lucy grinned as Kaleb talked about the sun in Texas. She laughed, “So probably the world’s greatest place to get lotion.” Kaleb’s polite manors continued to blow Lucy out of the park as he escorted her to the rocks and helped her to find a comfortable place. ‘There is this thing called relaxing Lucy, you should probably try it right now.’ She watched as Kaleb began to unpack the basket while checking off a list. For everything that Kaleb checked off his list the bigger Lucy’s grin became. ‘Since when is a guy listing food so cute? Oh who gives crap! Kaleb just called me wonderful company, score one for the Lucester!’ Lucy took advantage of the fact that Kaleb was looking for a seat to fight against the smile that felt like it would rip her face in two.
Lucy was too focused on her thoughts at the moment to register why Kaleb turned to look towards her but Lucy realized that she looked like a goof biting her bottom lip. Kaleb then asked a normal question and Lucy was able to focus on her answer as she grabbed a bag of chips. “Well let’s see.” Lucy thought for a moment about what she could tell him, “My middle name is Elaine, but I try not to tell people so if you blab, I will be forced to kick your butt.” Lucy laughed at how silly that actually seemed. “Um, I’m an only child and I have been dancing since I was five, so I a pretty good. Although there are a couple of dances that I flat out can’t do. Oh and something random I love Halloween for the costumes and free candy.” Lucy wanted to slap a hand over her face but settled with eating a potato chip before asking, “What about you Mr. Cowboy? What's something no one else knows about you?”
