Faith had gone through one hell of a week. It seemed like everyone was on her case about something or another. Maria wanted her to move in on the Cullen family more, to get to one of the males and tear the family apart, just to spite Jasper. However, Faith was not in the mood to tear apart a family just yet. In fact, she was not in the mood to do much of anything. After her encounter with Edward, she had begun to lose her faith in her power, but that was bitterly resonating in the back of her mind. Her first priority for the moment was to hunt. She went into Forks Forest with the single mindset of luring some poor sap of a hunter with her pheremones into believing he was the hottest thing since sliced bread before she drained him dry. That was just how she operated.
When she bolted into the forest, she allowed her instincts to take over, becoming completely feral. The scents in the forest lead her to the outskirts where she found a group of hunters that looked to just be beginning a hunting trip. Excellent... she thought as she jumped into a nearby tree to observe them more.

It wasn't a sound or sighting that gave it away. No, it was none of that. Quite the contrary, actually. Devonny's eyes were fixated on the hunters. She wasn't thirsty. She wasn't hunting. She was only observing them. She was perched high above the ground in a tree. If she hadn't been so far from the ground, it never would have been given away.
It was an unusually windy day. Not cold. It was warm, but simply windy. It was the scent that gave it away. The ever so haunting smell of rotted death. She knew it wasn't the Cullens. Edward wouldn't let them be so foolish. Her lip curled, baring her teeth in a growl. She made no sound, but shifted her position in the tree slightly. It was to her left. As Devonny was downwind, it wasn't hard to understand why the other vampire didn't detect her. She shifted again, preparing to jump if need be.

Faith was immediately distracted by another scent she suddenly caught as she sat up in the tree. It was the smell of a rotting corpse almost, masked by a sweeter scent. It was distinctly vampire. This was not a vampire she was familiar with either. As Faith looked around, she saw the silouette of the vampire in question not even three trees over from her own station. For several moments, Faith sat in her own tree and tried to decide if the other vampire was a friend or a foe before she made any sudden movements. Her attention was distracted just long enough for the hunters she was about to lure to move their camp. Damn it to hell! she thought bitterly before resigning herself to hunting at another time. I will get back to them later.
Without a single word, Faith hopped out of her tree and walked over to the tree where the other vampire was perched. "Are you friend or foe?" she called into the tree, hoping to receive some sort of answer.

Devonny remained in her tree. She watched the other vampire leave her tree and come to hers. The blonde stopped and looked at Devonny, eyes blackened with thirst. "Are you friend or foe?"[/i] she asked. Devonny mulled this over in her mind. She climbed down a little, not grounding herself but remaining in her tree instead. Her motions were swift and jerkless. Years of training had taught her how to deal with other vampires. The one beneath her was no exception to the rule. Devonny would play by her rules, no the others. This vampire clearly didn't know who she was dealing with.
"Now, is that any way to introduce yourself?" Devonny chided. She let go of the tree, and gracefully broke the air as she jumped from the tree. She landed with a soft thud. "This land is claimed. It is foolish to hunt here." Her tone was not condescending, but rather warning. And this stranger best take heed.

Faith almost scoffed as the vampire in question came down from her tree and began to chastise her. Obviously...she has no idea who she is dealing with... she thought sourly as the female vampire told her that the hunting lands were claimed. "I know all about the Cullens already, so I have no fear of them," she retorted. "As for my name, I am Faith Madison and you would do well to steer clear of me. I am Maria's right-hand woman and she is the Queen of all the southern covens." Faith did not see any reason to go into any more detail than that. It would suffice for any explanation. "And you are?" she asked without any hesitation.

Devonny laughed. Yes, laughed. Queen of the Southern Covens? It was humorous, to say the least. And this so called Faith's threat did to Devonny the opposite of Faith's intention. "Steer clear of you?" she repeated, as if mulling it over. "Hmm. No, I don't think so." She circled Faith, before coming to a rest to face her again. She smiled. "Who I am, my dear, is none of your concern." Devonny could tell that this girl had been a vampire longer, which gave Devonny the upper hand, considering younger vampires are stronger. And since Devonny had hunted a few days earlier, her eyes were a vibrant red, also giving her strength. Faith's, on the other hand, were blackened with what Devonny could only guess was thirst and anger. Regardless of any card she had been dealt, Dev wouldn't turn her back. She'd been trained by far higher a vampire than this one ever had.

Glaring at this unknown vampire with a scowl on her face, Faith watched in fascination as the other laughed at her. Faith did not take too kindly to other vampires laughing at her in the least bit. Every word she spoke was an utter insult to Faith, who could feel the venom in her mouth beginning to salivate in anger. Clenching and unclenching her jaw, she watched the unknown vampire circle her, but she never took her eyes off of her. The other had crimson eyes, indicating a recent hunt, whereas Faith had not hunted in a few days. But, in the back of her mind, she also knew that she was likely to be older than this vampire. "Who you are is my concern," she scoffed and continued to glare. "Now, we can do this the easy way and you just tell me your name and state your business here in Forks, or we can go about this the hard way...which I would rather not do today, if you do not mind. I have other, more important things to attend to." There was a slight acid tone to her voice that she let slip through to emphasize her point.

Devonny tsked. "So impatient. Don't worry, Faithy. You'll find out who I am in due time. I can assure you, however, that I bring you no harm." She leaned against her tree, crossing her arms over her chest. "I bring Forks no harm, and I would never do anything to jeopardize the Cullens' permanent residence." The last remark was a verbal attack, but Devonny hid it well. She did not like this girl, because she was hunting in claimed territory. But of course, Devonny was not in the mood for a fight either, and she kept her mouth shut about that. "By all means, Faith. Go back to your business. I believe I am done here."

Faith's jaw tightened when this unknown vampire made her name into a nickname of sorts. I swear to all that is evil in this world if she calls me that again, I'm going to rip her head off, she thought bitterly to herself, trying to keep her temper in check. But, with Faith, that was an incredibly difficult feat to accomplish. Her glare focused even further as the vampire smugly leaned against the tree, continuing her taunt to Faith. Pacing a few feet in front of her, Faith kept her eyes on the vampire at all time. One thing she learned early in her immortal life was to never turn your back on another vampire, unless you had a death wish, which Faith certainly did not. "You are correct in assuming I'm impatient," she began curtly. "But this life has given me no reason to be patient when I can get what I want in no time at all." Her velvet voice was laced with hatred and prejudice toward this unknown woman. "As for your identity and business here in Forks...I shall soon find out. I have ways." She turned to walk away, keeping her eyes locked on the woman, but soon remembered one last tidbit of information she wanted to share. "Oh, and before I forget," she said, turning her body toward the other vampire, "Do not ever call me Faithy again. My name is Faith and you will do well to remember that."

Devonny smiled. "What are you going to do, rip me in half?" She wasn't taunting, nor curious. But she wanted to know if Faith was smarter than she let on. Devonny had a box of matches that she kept on her at all times, just in case. It was a little known secret that the Volturi had when they ruled. "But by all means," she said, putting her hands in front of her, feigning defeat. "Use your ways. You won't be any more disappointed than you are now. Trust me, who I am and my purpose in Forks is no more exciting than watching paint dry." Her words were not sarcastic, just truthful. "And if it's human blood you want," she began to finish, "you won't get it by attempting my murder."

Glaring at the unknown vampire before her, Faith almost had to laugh. If there was one thing she kept to herself, it was her little secret of her powers. Not only did she have her vampiric power of manipulating pheremones, but also her wolf senses. Just standing near the unknown woman made her almost gag at the scent of death disguised with a sweet smell. However, Faith knew it was the wolf part of herself that rejected the vampire smell. Ultimately, it was only tolerable due to her vampire half. Looking into the other vampire's eyes, she glared and said, "I will not reveal anything to you...I may look young, but I'm not stupid. A small smirk crossed Faith's lips as she thought of all the ways she could kill this unknown vampire, but she shook them off to pay attention to her true task at hand. Her thirst was getting bothersome and she needed to hunt soon. "As for the human blood, I will find it soon enough...I can have a little patience for the hunt. It just makes for a better challenge." Faith backed away from the unknown woman and took a defensive position to ready herself for anything the woman might possibly do.
