Jordan needed sometime to herself to help her settle in to her surroundings. She thought the best way to do this was take a stroll down the beach and just have a few moments to herself. She was hoping that she might come across an adventure. She often daydreamed about the chances of her stumbling upon some kind of secret; it always made life more exciting. She watched as the waves crashed up against the rocks and smiled to herself. It felt good to be in a new place, to be with people that understood what she was and to be so accepting towards her. Her foot bumped against a rock that almost caused her to trip. Looking down quickly trying to catch her balance she spotted a small golden necklace buried in the sand. Picking it up, she inspected it carefully. The Necklace was still it pretty good condition as if maybe someone had recently lost it. Jordan looked around and could not see a soul in sight, at least from where she was standing. She ran her fingers across the little pink pearl that was attached to the necklace. Suddenly memories shot back into her mind.
Before life had gotten complicated Jordan had a friend named Naomi who always used to wear a string of pink pearls. She was a little prettier than Jordan, as well as smarter. Jordan and Naomi were inseparable until things started to go out of control. When Jordan began phasing, and going through a depression because of it, Naomi never seemed to be there. Jordan literally would get physical sick around Naomi as she began to hurt Jordan more and more. Jordan once tried to explain to Naomi that she was not a normal person; this later was a big mistake and lead Naomi only to beg a psychologist to inspect Jordan. After basically losing all her friends and little support from the people she considered her parents she attempted suicide.
Jordan closed her eyes and took a deep breath as she remembered that night when she began to treat her medicine cabinet like a candy store. She remembered the pain and frustration she felt, knowing she really did not know anyone else that was like her. Jordan began to cry as her heart reconstructed the deep feelings of being misunderstood by others and being labeled as crazy. Of course the attempt at suicide did not help on her sanity level, but at the time she did not know how to deal with who she was. She clutched the necklace tightly and threw it as far as she cold in the ocean. “This time, things will be different” she promised herself out loud. In a way the weight of her past lifted off her shoulders. Jordan managed to smile, and she thought of Leah comforting words the night she was freaking out. “I’m not alone anymore.” she finally said realizing how much happier she was already feeling about life.
