Candice smiled as Elena carried on conversation with her brother. Elena seemed really sweet, almost like a mother figure . Her eyes flashed with excitement as she continued to tell them a story about what life was like for her as a human. “Well I don’t remember much, other than I loved to dance. I still do, I just don’t get to do it all that often because I kind of gave up that dream in my human life to take care of my mother, and after I was changed I just never thought about picking things up again.” Elena looked at Ashlan with admiration. “It’s pretty amazing you still kept up with baseball after you were changed.” “I did.” Ashlan corrected her. “Ashlan is probably one of the best baseball players there is and he has been around the longest.” She said with a wink. “It’s just I think others would notice a few of his vampire traits if he was to try to go pro.” Candice gave a soft laugh and looked up at her brother. “That’s my bother.” She said with one of the sweetest smiles she could make.
“ Sorry to move off the subject of our past lives, but I think maybe we all need to focus on making sure the big bad wolf is not roaming around the area anymore.” Ashlan said trying to sound polite. “She would not be in wolf form because the sun is out.” Candice corrected. Ashlan just rolled his eyes. Elena looked in the distance, while Candice and her brother looked to both sides. “I’m not picking up any strange scents, it seems like there are some humans in the distance.” Candice said looking back at Elena. “Whatever killed that boy seems to be long gone from here.”

“She would not be in wolf form because the sun is out.” all Ashlan could really do at this statement was roll his eyes. Candice was his sister but he had to admit sometimes her way of “correcting him” really got on his nerves. He bit his bottom lip trying to hold back some kind of snarky remark to spit out right back at Candice. The three of them kept walking looking off in the distance of the woods and stopping every once in a while to make sure they were not picking up in kind of scent. Ashlan could tell his sister was getting bored because she kept wanting to start up unrelated conversation with Elena who seemed too polite to tell Candice to just shut up.
Ashlan was grateful at least to have someone other than himself that Candice could talk too; he could tell she was rather lonely. Ashlan was able to pull Elena to the side “Hey I just wanted to thank you for doing this, believe me if it was up to me to distract Candice from everything that has happened she would still be in hysterics.” He said with a smile.

Elena was happy to know that Ashlan was very appreciative of her company. From the looks of things Ashlan was grateful she had someone else to talk to besides him. Elena knew that these siblings must have been very close considering what they had both experienced. “It’s not a problem, im not one who likes to dwell on things, it’s good to get my mind of if it for a bit.” She said with a smile. Elena hoped that eventually they would catch the monster responsibly for what was taking place in forks, but for now she did not mind talking about lighter things. It was then that Elena picked up a smell. “Hold on for a minute.” Elena said sticking out her arm and stopping Ashlan. Candice who was right in front of them a few feet, spun around hearing Elena’s alarm. “There is something close by, it’s not human either.” Candice sprang up into a tree and began scanning the area while Ashlan and Elena looked around the floor. “There is something south.” Candice called down to them. “I’m not sure what it is, but it’s moving pretty fast.”
Elena looked south and tightened her lips together. “Let’s go.” She said in a very authoritative voice. The Three of them sprinted off into the forest due south. Within minutes they reached the thing that had sent them on a wild goose chase. There was a piece of cloth strapped to a deer. “I admit she is very smart.” Elena said in a very irritated voice. “I can make it stand still, if you want to go ahead and get the cloth from it, at least we can get familiar with her scent then. "Candice said looking at Elena. “Go ahead.” She said. Candice did not even have to say a word to the deer; it just came over to her and allowed her to take the cloth right off from its neck. “Candice is real good with animals.” Ashlan said with a wink. “Does it work on werewolves?” Elena asked. “Not really, it just kind of messes with their mind a tad bit, werewolves tend to be more difficult to control because they are half human as well.” when all was said and done Candice handed the cloth over to Elena who tossed it around for a bit. “It was very wise of her to tie a part of her remaining clothes to animals. Who knows how many of these things are out here with pieces of her clothes. I supposed that is way i was confused as what it was, the scent of a deer and her would throw anyone off.”

Candice was slightly frustrated that there perimeter check had led them on a wild goose chase. “If I happen to cross whoever this thing is, I can’t promise I will deal with it lightly.” Candice said trying to keep her cool. “I don’t really like werewolves that much, it hard to deal with the smell let alone control them.” Elena looked at Candice with a smile. “I have heard you get used to the smell. But I understand.” Ashlan went over to his sister and gave her a hug and a quick kiss on the forehead. “Don’t let it get to you; I am sure we will get the big bad wolf eventually.” Candice knew her brother was trying to be comforting but she still felt very uneasy about the situation. “Maybe we should head back; wherever she might be she is obviously far away from here.” Elena and Ashlan agreed and the three of them started to head back over to the Cullen’s mansion.
Candice could feel that she was starting to get hungry. “Ash, I think it past due a hunting trip.” She said looking over at her brother. Elena overhearing Candice smiled. “You don’t mind if I join you do you?” Candice smiled. “You are more than welcomed.”

Elena was grateful that Ashlan and Candice were so willing to allow her to hunt with her. Elena would have offered to go hunting with the Cullen’s but knowing their history, there idea of hunting was slightly different then hers. “I’m not sure where all we can go, but I am sure we would find a few people in the bigger cities.” Candice nodded. “Ashlan and I usually like to try to find the drunks, the real nasty ones, that way we don’t feel as bad.” Elena smiled. “It took a long time for me to get used to my new lifestyle but you do what you have too. If I could, I would prefer to live like the Cullen’s but I don’t think I have the will power to give up Human blood.” Elena thought for a moment. “ It’s strange how when I was human, I would have probably fainted at even the sight of blood, now I live off it.” Ashlan laughed slightly at her statement. “ What was your human life like? Do you remember?” Elena nodded. “ I was a dancer, a very good one at that. very passionate and youthful. My mother feel ill and I had to give it up eventually. I did however enjoy the dance craze during the twenties.”
“ Oh that is all we ever did as humans” Candice bragged. “When we were not bootlegging, we were dancing the night away. “ She said winking at her brother. “ Well, I actually had a real job.” Ashlan admitted. “ Baseball is still considered a game Ash.” Candice teased.
