It was her first day in Forks Washington and she barely knew a soul. Feeling more connected with nature then the many strange faces she had seen while driving into town she decided that once she was settled in she would go exploring. She thought it would be easy because no one really knew her, she would be invisible to this new life she has just entered, or worse she would stand out. She managed to find a trail leading into the forest and then cautiously looked around to see if maybe there was anyone watching. She did not care much for her old worn out jeans and red and blue hooding so the thought of changing now did not really worry her. She thought that maybe exploring things as a wolf might be a better way to really get a feel for what was around her. There was always a heightened sense of things when she phased. “Well I can’t stay invisible forever, so might as well make my presence known” Jordan said softly to herself. She took a few steps but for some reason she still felt nervous and scared, as if phasing would bring more attention to her then she needed at the moment. Confused and extremely frustrated she placed her back against a tree and began to contemplate her decision. “Out of all the things I should be phasing into it should be a chicken and not a wolf, who am I kidding? I don’t even understand this whole werewolf business. I’m so clueless it’s a hazard to my kind.” She laughed. She could not believe she was chickening out and not phasing. She had come all this way to search for more answers and now that she was here all she wanted to do was lean against a tree and think about how much braver she wished she was. She closed her eyes and tried to focus. Her head was flooding with doubts and frustrations. More than anything she wanted to understand what she was doing with her life, why she decided to suddenly move to a place she had only heard some silly legends about in order to understand herself more. Her eyes shot opened once she realized it was getting darker, she had not realized that she had actually fallen asleep underneath the same tree she once was standing up against. Dry leaves and mud caked the bottom of her jeans and she dusted them off as she pulled herself up “Maybe i should call it a night, take a shower and worry about making myself known to the world another day.” she told herself. As she headed back to the entrance of the path, she heard something in the distance.

Leah stood in her doorway, on the brink of just running away. Everything she had known was changing in the blink of an eye. Lexi had imprinted on someone...finally. But this meant that Leah was now alone yet again. She hated losing practically everyone she had ever known to this strange, stupid thing called imprinting. In the back of her head, she wondered if it were actually possible for a wolf to go insane because she was pretty sure she was about a millimeter away from going completely nuts. Looking back in her house, she grabbed a hoodie and started out toward the path that lead through the forest by Forks. It was a nice enough night to go walking, not that she would have needed her hoodie anyways. She simply took it out of habit.
As she walked, she mentally baraded herself about the imprinting thing. Maybe you're not meant to be with anyone Lean. This could be fate's way of telling you that there is no guy out there that can handle you. As she walked, she continued her tyrade. She knew that on more than one level she was right. Sam had left her when he imprinted on Emily years ago and now they had both passed on. She'd lost her only true friend when Jacob imprinted on Renesmee when she was born. Now they were raising a little girl of their own. Her only family, her brother Seth, was God knows where doing who knows what. She hadn't seen him in nearly a year and her only source of dissolving worry was hearing his voice in her wolf form. Otherwise, she would have thought he was AWOL or something.
The further into the forest she walked, the more she came to realize that she was not alone. There was a familiar scent that was trailing through the forest, yet it was very unfamiliar at the same time. She followed it to an opening where she saw a young girl who looked not much older than herself physically. Keeping her distance, she decided to test the waters to see if the girl was friend or foe. "Who are you?" she asked in a semi-authoritative voice, one she used as the Beta of the pack, but being polite at the same time...something she had learned over the last thirty years.

Jordan was startled when she finally heard a voice calling out from behind her. She did not think someone would actually be in the forest. “I’m no one special; I’m just lost that’s all. I’m planning on leaving right now actually.” She turned back around and began walking towards where she came in from hoping that whoever was in the forest would leave her alone.
The hairs on the back of her neck stood up and she had a feeling that the unseen visitor was still there. Jordan only took a few more steps before actually turning back around at calling to a shadowy figure “Actually, my name is Jordan.” She doubted that it would really mean anything to the stranger, but maybe whoever it was that was questioning her might pick up the hints of friendliness in her voice. “I’m just a little confused at the moment. I just moved here so I mean no harm. I was just exploring.” Jordan really hoped that whoever it was understood that she really had no clue what was going on. “I mean I been looking for some answers, I have heard some strange things about this place. I guess I was trying to place some meaning in to why I decided to move here in the first place.” She admitted.
As Jordan waited for a response, it felt like ages. Her heart was beating at a mile per minute. Was this what she really wanted? The palms of her hands began to sweat and her breathing became harder and less relaxed. The muscles in her shoulders tensed up and before she knew it she had phased out of pure fear and anxiety. She did not know what to expect after she realized what she had done.

Leah watched as the new girl obviously went into some sort of freak out session. She was obviously very new to the area and uncertain about a lot of things, which Leah could sense by her fear. When she replied that she was no one special, Leah bit her tongue to keep from snapping at someone so new. Most of the time she liked to reserve her worst behavior for those who knew her the best, which amounted to Jacob at this point. As she continued to observe the new girl, she was curious as to why she was in the area in the first place. The scent she gave off was vaguely familiar, like something Leah had been around before. But, she knew that it couldn't be possible...there were only so many female wolves around. When she phased for the first time, she had been the exception and the only one. Now there was Delilah and Lexi that she used to talk to about her problems...before both of them imprinted.
Staring at the girl, she heard her say that her name was Jordan and that she had heard some strange rumors about Forks in general. Ha...you can say that again, she quipped to herself mentally. For all the glamor and glitz of being a small town, Forks had a huge supernatural vortex that was sitting right in the middle of it with the existence of vampires and shape-shifters right around its borders. The Cullens pretended to fit in with the humans, but the Quileutes never pretended to be something they were not. They embraced their heritage whole-heartedly...at least most of them did. Leah had been more hesitant in the beginning and still had her own issues.
Before she could introduce herself, she watched as the girl phased right in front of her out of pure nerves. Sighing, Leah ran behind a bush to ditch her clothes and phase herself so that the girl wouldn't be so frightened. When she walked out and approached Jordan's wolf form, she tried to reassure her with her own thoughts. My name is Leah Clearwater, she thought slowly. And I think you've come to the right place if you want some answers about all of this. Leah looked down at her own paws and back to Jordan to prove her point. She knew what it meant to be utterly confused about what and who you were.

After realizing she had phased Jordan looked back at the girl, who now had vanished. At first Jordan thought that maybe her freak out session had scared the poor girl away, but before she could think anything else a wolf jumped out from behind some nearby bushes. Jordan began to feel a little calmer once she realized that she had more in common with the stranger then she had thought. I’m really sorry you have to see me like this Leah. Jordan felt more like a sheep than a wolf at the moment. So many questions were filling her head now. She tried to focus on just one though. Can you tell me a little about me, what is going on? How come I feel like I have so much in common with you? I barely know you but I since somehow we are connected. Jordan felt like a weight had been lifted off her shoulders. Her head was no longer spinning and for the first time in her life, she thought that maybe everything she had ever gone through would make sense. So are those legends true then about forks? Is there some world here I have yet to be introduced to? She continued to think. Jordan walked up a little closer to Leah to show she was no longer as scared. She waited anxiously for a reply, some kind of answer that would make everything fall into place. Jordan was happy she was in the right place, but yet was scared that maybe she would hear some things that she was not ready for. The wind blew through her sandy brown fur and patted her back as if some higher power was assuring her that things would be ok.

Leah listened as Jordan asked her questions, the very same questions she had asked herself thirty years prior when she phased for the very first time. Of course, there had not been another female wolf to give her any answers then, so Jordan was lucky. Don't be sorry for freaking out, she said. Trust me...you are a much more calm version of what I was the very first time I phased into this body. Leah thought back thirty years to the first time she had ever phased. Her father had just died of a heart attack, she was still angry over losing Sam to Emily, and life had been just hell in general. She remembered going into the woods and beginning to tremble with anger before she felt her body temperature spike. After which she went home to rest. A few days later, she saw Sam with Emily and that set her off. She phased for the first time after running into the woods.
Hearing all of Jordan's question, Leah decided to sort her answer into some sort of order to catch all Jordan's curiousity in one swoop. The legends you have probably heard about Forks are true, she began in her thoughts. There is a coven of vampires that live nearby, which is exactly why you and I exist. We are shape-shifters; part of a long decended line that began with some of the first elders of our tribe to combat an old enemy known as the Cold Ones...or vampires. However, the vampire coven that is nearby are the Cullens and they mean us no harm, nor do we harm them. Leah thought of her disdain for those creatures. It was because of them that she was transformed into a wolf in the first place. Pushing aside her personal prejudices, she sought to finish her reply. Your connection to me probably stems from some familial relation to the tribe, which makes you part of our pack. Our pack is lead by our Alpha, Jacob Black, who is decended from the original shape-shifter. Leah knew there was much more detail to share...especially regarding Jacob's marriage to one of the Cullens, but she felt like she could share in time. For now, she let Jordan soak in the knowledge she had just given her.

As Jordan turned the new bits of knowledge she had just received around in her head. She tried to image how she could possibly be connected to a long line of shape shifters. This was the first time it actually hit her that vampires was no longer a child story to scare children right before they went to bed. It was a relief to hear that the covens the Cullen’s were no threat and she wondered if maybe she had already seen one of them when she first arrived. So how many others are there like us? Are there vampires I need to watch out for? I mean what the heck do I do if I run into a vampire? Jordan was now aware a little bit that she was supposed to be a protector but had no clue what exactly that entailed.
As she waited for a reply, she thought back to when she was in the asylum that her parents locked her up in after her attempts with suicide as a result of her lack of understanding because what she was going though. Changing into a monster, like a werewolf, as she first thought was not exactly a comforting feeling. It was nice to finally have someone else to relate to. Someone that actually knew what it was like to phase into a wolf. Tell me all that you can please. she looked deep into Leah eyes and awaited a reply.

Watching as Jordan seemed to take everything in at once, Leah sniffed and ran one of her front paws over her ears. One of the definite downsides to the wolf life was the skin irritation Leah always seemed to get from having such dry skin. It was hugely irritating and she didn't like it one bit. As she let Jordan take in the new information a little more, she heard the questions she had in her mind. Jordan seemed eager to learn quickly and catch on to all she needed to know. There are vampires that are not like the Cullens, she continued in thought. They are the traditional type that you hear about in legends and horrific nightmares...preying on innocent people for their meals. Those are the kind we do not tolerate. Leah bit back another sting of hatred to keep herself calm. Vampires were not her cup of tea, but she didn't want the newcomer to know too much about her cynicism just yet. After all...she was new once too.
For the time being, you will never engage a vampire alone, she said in a somewhat authoritative voice, asserting her Beta power. It's too dangerous because you are young and inexperienced at any type of fighting. Leah's memory flashed to her first few lessons in fighting vampires all those years ago. Fighting vampires was one thing, but gaining the valuable knowledge of how to defeat them was even more important. Looking to Jordan again, she knew that she was most likely alone and knew exactly what the feeling was like. If you'd like, you can meet some of the rest of the pack. And you can stay with me if you wish. My house has an extra room since my brother left on his own for a while. Thinking about Seth made her miss his furry little butt. It had been ages since he'd come home after taking off to venture out on his own as a lone wolf. Jacob had told her that every young male wolf has to have that time, so she let him go without a fight.

Jordan was a little apprehensive once she heard Leah offer. Jordan did not want to interfere at all, but it would be nice to meet the others. Thank you, I would appreciate that a lot if I could met the others and stay with you. If there is anything I can do let me know. Besides feeling a bit overwhelmed at the news of vampires and her duty as a wolf, she thought things were going rather smoothly. Jordan felt like a typical rookie, inexperienced, and naïve. Jordan looked down at her paws, she had never really studied her wolf form before but the moonlight was hitting her sandy brown fur just right that she finally saw herself not as a monster but a beautiful creature. She thought about what Leah had said about protecting people from the monstrous vampires she had just described. A sense of purpose began to rest in Jordan’s mind and she felt somewhat useful for once. Jordan began to wonder about The Cullen’s and what made them so different from any other vampire.
What makes the Cullen’s different? She finally thought focusing her attention on the question, trying to block out all the other thoughts that were racing through her head. She began to fear that maybe she was not strong enough or brave enough to be protecting people from vampires. Would her inexperience hold the pack back? She was going to have to be strong and educated to survive in this new world of vampires, wolfs, and humans. Jordan relaxed and decided to take one step at a time, she was sure she would be getting all the answers to her questions soon.

Standing in the bright light of the full moon, Leah sat down and decided that if she was going to have a conversation with someone, she might as well be comfortable while doing so. The ground was semi-soft with the grass tickling her paws as she situated herself to listen in some more to Jordan. She was glad that Jordan had accepted her offer to come meet the rest of the pack, knowing that they would accept her right away with open arms. Jacob was always one to accept new people without judgement and Leah followed his example most of the time. As his Beta, she kept an eye out for everyone in the pack as well. She knew Lexi and Delilah would be happy to have a new female wolf in their family and Leah was just glad to have someone who had not imprinted to talk to.
Hearing Jordan's question about the Cullens, Leah's ears perked up. Her tentative friendship with the Cullens, formed thirty years ago, was more solid now than it had been. She had finally accepted them as part of her life and inevitable being that Jacob was married to one of them and now had a daughter who was of both vampire and wolf blood. The Cullens don't prey on humans, she finally replied. They call themselves vegetarians because they hunt animals rather than humans. Their diet is strictly animal blood. Leah paused and thought of something else that Jordan might ask and decided to answer it right off the bat to save her from wondering. And don't worry...wolves are not part of their diet...at least our kind of wolf.

Jordan was amused to her about the Cullen’s. A group of vampires that called themselves vegetarians was a very interesting and funny thing. Jordan wondered what the Cullen coven was like and was thankful that there was at least one group of vampires she did not have worry about. Tell me about the others. Jordan thought. Was it easy for you to accept this kind of life? Jordan quickly added. Jordan decided to lie down, she was feeling very tired and the soothing motion of the wind and trees were making her more and more relaxed. She perked up her ears though and focused on Leah, she did not want to give off the impression that she was bored or something. She tried to hide her exhaustion from Leah as best as she could but it seemed to be somewhat failing.
Jordan did not try to beat herself up too badly about the fact she was slowly losing her energy, she was very drained from all the driving she had done, and was somewhat restless because she was not quiet settled in somewhere yet. A burst of energy shot back into her, and she focused all her attention on Leah’s words. She did not want to make a bad first impression on someone that seemed like one of the leaders to the pack of wolves that she hoped would soon become her extended family.

From the looks of Jordan, Leah could tell that she was exhausted. She knew exactly what it meant to go from having one life one day and then a totally different one the next. The change hadn't been easy for her either, being the first female wolf in the history of the Quileute tribe. She knew that it had been easier for Delilah and Alexandria because she had already been established in the pack and could stick up for them as females. Leah poked her head up and looked compassionately at Jordan as she asked about the others and then if it was hard for her to accept this life. Well, Jacob is our Alpha. He is very mature and kind. He has a wife and daughter now, which is great for him. Then there is Noah...he's kind and easy to talk to. He and one of the other female wolves, Delilah, are together and have twins. The other female is Lexi. She is sweet and fairly laid back. And of course there's Jon. He's dating a human girl named Kenzie, she thought, going through all the pack members in her head. Of the entire pack, Leah knew she was the only one who had not imprinted on someone and that made her feel worse, but she brushed it off.
And then there is my bonehead brother Seth, she snorted and laughed in her head. You'll probably meet him later when he comes home from his little 'adventure' that he left on a few months ago. Jordan's second question was a little harder for Leah to answer as she looked at the ground and then up to the trees. Thirty years of being in this life had still not really given her the peace of mind she had hoped it would, but she wanted to let Jordan make her own decision about how she felt about being this animal. I will be honest with you, she began. When I first came to this life...I hated it. I wanted nothing to do with it and resented my family history for making me this...monster. But you see, I was the only female wolf when I first phased. I was an abnormality that no one really knew about. Leah thought back to her first few months as a wolf and how disdained she had been. But, over thirty years I've come to accept it and love the family the pack has given me. However, loving or hating this life is a decision you have to come to on your own.

Leah’s words rang in Jordan’s ears; a sense of importance filled her heart. Jordan was not sure if she hated or loved this life. she had only know if for a sort while, when she was living in her old home town she only phased every so often, but tried not to make a habit out of it afraid that maybe someone she knew would discover her secret. I suppose the best thing I can do is accept the challenge of being who I am, I can’t hide from it, and it’s a part of me now. Why waste an opportunity to do things others can’t. Besides I am sure there are perks to being a wolf. Jordan really wanted to be as optimistic about the situation, know how being the opposite usually lead her to do stupid and careless things. I think I might want to go to my car and get a change of clothes before I phase back. I think it would be easily to drive a vehicle with hands instead of paws. Jordan laughed to herself. I’m pretty sure you have an idea of how out of it I am, so maybe it might be best to talk more back at your place.
Jordan was very thankful that slowly but surely a kind of friendship was forming with Leah. She knew that Leah would not only make a great friend but a great mentor to her and her new life. Jordan hoped that the others would accept her as easily as Leah had described. Jordan was looking forward to things for once in her life. in a strange way she felt at home, a feeling that was very new to her. She felt like she belonged.

Leah was glad to see that Jordan was at least a bit more optimistic about her new stance in life than she had been in the beginning. It was only recently that Leah was beginning to truly accept her life as a wolf and perhaps starting to enjoy it. When Jordan mentioned getting some clothes from her car, Leah had to smirk because it was the most common problem with new wolves who had not learned to control their phasing. They went through clothes like nobody's business. Alright, go get some clothes and I'll change back into mine so we can talk as humans, she thought to Jordan as she stood up and stretched her front legs out in front of her. Then I'll show you where my place is so we can get some shut eye too.
Turning around, Leah darted behind the bush she had ditched her clothes behind and phased back into a human. Pulling on her sweatpants and other various items of clothing, she stood up and waited for Jordan to come back. Her hair was messy, so she swooped it up into a loose bun and sighed. Looking up at the stars, she began to miss Seth even more as nights like this reminded her of their patrol nights together when they would have races through the forest. She would always beat him, of course, being the fastest wolf in the pack, but it was still fun to do something with her brother since they were all each other had in the way of family.

Slightly embraced she was not completely in control of her phasing Jordan headed back to her car. Normally Jordan did not normally care what she threw on, but for some reason it took her longer to pick out an outfit to wear once she phased back. Finally she decided on a green blouse and some worn out jeans. Jordan did not want to appear like she had put too much thought into picking out an outfit, but at the same time her bohemian style was something she did often take her time with. Jordan dug through her purse and located a small brush. She bent down and using the side view mirrors to get a glimpse of how bad her hair looked before brushing it. She looked back over at the clearing to make sure Leah was still awake, she felt a little sorry for taking so long. Sure enough Jordan could make up Leah’s shadow. Jordan walked back to Leah and apologized. “Sorry I may be a wolf, but I still take as long as a girl to get ready for things.” Jordan looked back at her car. “Do you need a ride? I mean im not sure how far away your place is from here but I have a car and you might as well ride with me in case I get lost and run into vampires or something” Jordan said jokingly. “I tend to have an uncanny way of finding danger.” She sheepishly admitted.
