Bella chose to ignore Devonny's first inquiry about Evan for the more important about Renesmee. "Her honeymoon is supposed to be two weeks long, so she should be home in about a week," she replied. "But, by the time she returns, Lexie's pregnancy will still have at least a week left, so she will still find out. Plus, I'm not going to keep something like this away from my daughter because she has the right to know."
And of course the conversation would steer back to Evan, as Bella could have predicted it would at the mention of him. "Evan is Alice's friend, her best friend," she said. Then the thought of Jasper made her cringe; after what he had done, Bella still thought that he didn't deserve Alice, but she shoved her personal opinion back in her mind. "And I would assume that Jasper is rather jealous by the way he acted at the wedding, asserting that he was Alice's husband right in front of Evan. But, that was before Alice knew about Jasper's infidelity and Lexie's pregnancy."

Devonny shook her head. "No no, I didn't mean lie to her about it," she tried to explain. "I merely thought that if Renesmee didn't see the fighting that maybe it would be easier for her to handle. You know, if most of it was done before she got home. Of course she should know about it!
Devonny sighed. There wasn't much more she could think of to do, never having been in the situation. She wished there was something, anything, that she could say to help, but she was at a loss for it. "Regardless, my offer to taken in Lexie still stands. I'm aware that she may not make it though the pregnancy, much like you did. And be this the case, she'll need someone to change her who can control themselves. I'm willing to do all that I can."

Bella nodded in reply to Devonny. "Edward and I have decided to defer Jacob and Renesmee's honeymoon for a while longer. We're sending them to Isle Esme for a few weeks from Italy, so we will probably have a little more time. And thank you for offering to help us. I'm still not sure what we're doing in regards to Lexie and Jasper's...situation because there is the matter of Lexie's twin, Veronica," she continued. "She's about as likely to leave her sister as I am to leave Alice. They're bonded like any sisters would be." Bella stood up and began to pace the ground. Her head was going around almost every possibility that could, might, or would happen over the next few weeks. She really didn't want to think of what Renesmee was going to say when she and Jacob came home from their honeymoon.
"You know, when I first joined the Cullens, Alice and Jasper were tighter than anything I knew," she said mournfully. "And then Crystal appeared out of nowhere and suddenly, Alice left and then Jasper cheats on her...with my cousin. It's just like the world I knew and loved is slowly caving in around me. Thank God I still have Edward or I don't know what I would do."

Devonny's ears perked up at this. Crystal? Why was the name familiar? She couldn't help but ask Bella about her. "Who's Crystal?" she asked. She didn't give Bella time to answer before she spoke again. "Bella, you know there are no quick fixes. Healing takes time. But it is possible." She wanted nothing more than to reassure her goddaughter. The most important thing to her was Bella's happiness and well-being, and the people in Bella's family were making it extremely difficult for her to be happy. (Sorry its short..  ) |

Bella cringed at even mentioning Crystal's name. That backstabbing traitorous... she didn't even bother finishing the thought as she listened to Devonny. "Crystal was supposedly another sister that used to be part of the Cullen family before Edward even met me. She chose to leave with her mate, Will, who was not a vegetarian like the rest of the Cullens," she explained, continuing to pace back and forth across the ground. The winter air had no affect on her, so she would be able to pace forever if she needed to. Just thinking about Crystal made her angry.
"Anyways, she came back right after Edward, Renesmee, and I came home from London. Alice immediately distrusted her because as a psychic, she blocked Alice's visions. Then she started making up these stories that Will was after her. Jasper took her side over Alice's, his own wife of over a century. That's when Alice decided she needed some space, so she left for a while. As it turns out, Alice was right and Crystal was in league with Will the entire time to get to my daughter," she seethed the last part through clenched teeth. The next time she saw Crystal, she was likely to rip her apart and burn her without questioning. Any threat to her family was a personal one.

Devonny saw she'd hit a sore spot on Bella with Crystal, but there was information on this vampire that Devonny needed. She needed to remember why the name was so familiar. Sure, Devonny was a vampire, and her memory should be perfect. But it was common for her kind to get distracted. She must have tuned out before... "Why did they want Renesmee?" she asked. She could tell Bella hated Crystal with a passion. That much was visible from her face. And with good reason, of course.
"Bella, it sounds like you need to make a choice. Do you want to carry on with this situation, or do you want to make it end? You can do it, I know you can."

Bella scrunched her face into a frown at the mention of Will and Crystal's names again. She swore up and down in her mind that if she ever saw them again, she would rip them into tiny shreds. They had let Crystal back into the family and she had betrayed their trust, which was a sin in Bella's mind. "I assume that Will wanted Nessie to get to me and Edward, knowing that she is our only child and only half-vampire," she replied with disgust. "But I swear if they come near my daughter, Edward, Jacob, and myself will rip them to shreds regardless of the situation."
Thinking on Devonny's words that she could end the drama, Bella knew as one-half of the royal couple, she had the power to force Jasper to take responsibility for his mistake and to allow Alice to be free of him. The only thing holding her back was the fact that he was still her brother. "Devonny, I care for my family deeply, and that includes Jasper and Lexie. Even though I do not agree with what they have done, I still can only do so much."

Devonny smiled and shook her head. "Bella, you know so much more than you give yourself credit for. You have the mindpower to save this. Don't use the royalties the vampire population has allotted you. Give your family advice. Subtle suggestions are best. They will heed it without hesitation. They might not know the course of action yet to take, but with hints, they can find it, even if they don't realize it." Devonny's words were controlled and articulate. She wanted Bella to understand that this was a talent of hers, it came with the shield. Oh, yes, Devonny knew of the shield, but who of the late Volturi did not? "There are far stretches of your mind you've yet to touch, yet to discover. Exercise it, learn your abilities. I can feel it in you." She put a gently hand on Bella's arm. "You have more than one gift, Bella. It is difficult to understand, but you will find it."

Bella sighed heavily. She had always known that she had the mind shield, but other powers...those were in the dark completely to her. It seemed as if her family chose to ignore her, particularly Jasper. "Jasper has already made up his mind," she said. "He's not going to have anything to do with the children and he refuses to give Alice the divorce she wishes to get."
Her mind quickly reverted back to Devonny's mention of other powers she had yet to discover. What more could she have that would not have manifested itself yet? That was something that kept her curious. "And what are these powers I have yet to discover?" she asked, the curiousity knawing at the pit of her stomach.

Devonny knew that the curiosity was going to get to Bella. When she bit, Devonny smiled. "Have you ever asked for something that people were dead set against, but you got it anyway?" Devonny knew the answer was yes. "That's the gift. It's subtle, small. But it is there." she explained. "It was something your mother had too, even as a human. Your grandmother would have called it being spoiled rotten. Once I'd became a vampire I realized it was a gift. And you inherited it." Devonny met Bella's eyes. "I'd only held you a few times before my... disappearance, but you had it even then. Its an almost subconscious gift, but with some trying, you can use it on command. Try it. Ask for the rain."

It took Bella a second to think about what Devonny had said, but she realized that she was right. A dim memory existed in her mind of when she first began her relationship with Edward as a human. He had refused, under any circumstances, to change her into a vampire. Yet, through her subtle persistence and stubborn willpower, she had compromised to marry Edward if he would change her into a vampire. "Well, I did sort of weasel Edward into changing me when he was adamantly against it in the first place because he thought it would condemn my soul," she said slowly.

Devonny wanted to sing, but she knew better of that. She was just so happy all of a sudden that she could think of nothing better to do. But she kept her mind off that, knowing that something dangerous would happen if she opened her mouth and let the music flow. "Yes, Bella! That's exactly it!" she exclaimed, hopping to her feet. She took Bella's hands in hers. "You've got it! Just ask for something, anything, and it's yours." She paused, the thought of Bella's husband coming to her mind. She didn't know how he would react to such a discovery, but Devonny knew that eventually he would find out. "See how easy it can be for you to fix something? All you need to do is suggest it. Put the idea in their mind. Hell, you could ask for the Nile and you'd get it." She smiled.
