A few antagonizing seconds lingered in the air around them. Then she started walking towards him, and didn't stop until she was so close that he could have leaned his head in about 5 inches and kissed her. But, of course, he didn't; refraining himself he tried to keep his head on straight as he looked right back at her stunning facial features. "You really wanna know my darkest secret?" Her voice set him on edge, any minute now he just knew that he was going to crack. "Yes." he breathed, inaudibly.
"Then you might want to pay attention to your thoughts a little more..." He heard her voice again, but this time, her lips didn't move, not one bit. This time, her voice had more of a ringing tone to it as well. Then, it all clicked. Her deepest darkest secret was that she was a two-way radio. As his mind registered what had just happened, his body took a few extra seconds to react. Twitching and moving as if someone had hit him over the head with a frying pan he stuttered, out loud and to himself...
"How the he.." 'I didn't know that, that was…' "How the hell is that possible?" 'That is just too crazy, aww, hell, I'm kinda jealous now.' "Am I going crazy or did you just broadcast your voice in my head?"

Mikaela watched in delight as Jackson began to stutter over his words and thoughts. Going back and forth between the two proved to be the most amusing thing of all. The look upon his face was almost a cross between a deer in the headlights and getting knocked over the head with something heavy. A sly smile crossed her lips as he fumbled around to ask her the question about her power. "No...you're not crazy," she said before slipping into thought again and allowing him to hear. unless you'd like to be. Taking another step closer to him, she was literally three inches from his face. If they had been human, this would be the part where his heart would have instantly begun racing. However, they were not human but the general affect would still be the same mentally. She stayed there for a moment before taking a step back.
"Yeah, I'm a mind-reader and can project thoughts to your mind too," she said, shoving her hands into the pockets of her leather jacket. "When I woke up to this life...I thought I was going insane because I constantly heard things in my head that I wasn't thinking." Mikaela thought back to her first few weeks as a vampire...the only time she ever spent with others of her kind, her creator. "Not long after that I discovered that I could project my thoughts out to others' minds as well," she explained, thinking back to the moment she realized that. She had been angry with her creator and was shouting in her head so loudly that he had heard it. "But I usually keep that part of my power in check and only use it when I want to."

Normally, Jackson would have not tolerated somebody being all in his face and taunting him. This time however, he didn't mind, not one bit. His attention had snapped back into place as she had said "No...you're not crazy...," and he watched her in awe as she stepped even closer to his face and then thought "…unless you'd like to be." He took an unnecessary breath to regain his composure and set a sly smile on his face and then took 3 steps to lean against a nearby tree. He didn't want to give too much away, and he now knew that he would, in fact, need to be more careful with his random thoughts…but, the question was...would he? He listened patiently as she explained about her power, and a tiny smidge about her past.
He saw the unintentional look on Mikaela's face. Something in her lovely face gave him the impression that she wouldn't want to be pressed for more information about her past just yet. Changing the subject slightly and keeping his sly attitude, he said "Hmmm, speaking of keeping powers in check…wanna guess my deepest darkest secret, or would you rather see for yourself?"

Watching Jackson back against the tree, she could tell that he was impressed by her behavior. Under all normal circumstances, Mikaela would have split minutes ago and kept on travelling to other places. However, something about this Jackson character kept her intrigued. He seemed calm, cool, and collected on the outside but his thoughts betrayed him otherwise. But now that he knew what she could do, he was watching his thoughts a lot more. But, something would eventually slip through and she could get to know him even better. Standing in front of him, she took her hands out of her pocket and casually dropped them to her sides.
Hearing him offer to reveal his darkest secret brought a smirk to her face. He had given her the option of either guessing it or showing it to her. Mikaela knew that it was a power, so that narrowed things down a lot. Taking a step in his direction, Mikaela considered guessing to see if she could even begin to sort through what it was. She also thought of just reading his mind to see if he would reveal it unintentionally, but that was a no-go situation as he kept his mind like a fortress now, locking her out of what he was not revealing. Damn... she thought frustratedly to herself. He's a hell of a lot better than most people at guarding his thoughts. She took another step in his direction confidently. "Hmm...decisions, decisions..." she said antagonizingly. "How about you just show me your power and then I can guess what you're thinking about me?" she suggested, arching one eyebrow and cocking a smile as she arrived less than two feet away from him.

Jackson watched as Mikaela slowly began to approach him again and said in that irresistible voice of hers, "How about you just show me your power and then I can guess what you're thinking about me?" Again he raised his right eyebrow at her and put a sly smile on his face. As soon as she put her last foot down, stopping about two feet away from him, Jackson blinked.
He made sure to stay in the same position and just moved to the tree that was about four yards to his right. His action was so sudden that it created a wind to move the grass and brush that had been sitting, innocently, under the tree to which he had moved. He then crossed his arms and fulfilled the rest of her suggestion. "I think you're one of the most amazing creatures I've met in my entire life as a vampire…and that’s only 'cause I don't remember much before."

For a split second, Mikaela actually thought she was going insane as she watched Jackson disappear right in front of her. What in the hell? she asked wordlessly, looking around like a total idiot. She had never seen anything like it in her entire life or existence as a vampire. And she knew she was a weird one for her mind reading abilities. But this...well this was plain insanity. Jackson literally vanished right in front of her without one word. When he reappeared a few moments later, just a couple of yards to the right near a tree, she was astonished and in shock. Shaking her head, she tried to make sense of it. As he crossed his arms, she heard his thoughts and smirked seductively.
"That's a pretty impressive power," she said. Walking over in his direction, she arched one eyebrow and pursed her lips in thought. Jackson was certainly the most entertaining creature she had come across, not to mention one of the most attractive, but she wasn't going to admit that so it could go straight to his ego...just yet. "So I'm the most amazing creatures huh?" she asked. "That means one of two things...either you haven't met very many of our kind or I must be some fox." A small laugh escaped her lips as she used his own word in context, knowing it would catch his attention right away.

"Think whatcha like doll face, but I will say this…I'm not the kind to...not make friends." Jackson said with an added accent on the pet name he'd just made up for her. The fact that she was mocking his earlier thoughts made him laugh; and he hoped that his response got another reaction from her, because she was very entertaining. He liked waiting and watching for the light to go off in her eyes as she registered what was going on around her, and calculated her next move.
He stole another glance at her face and then suddenly blinked to another tree, then another, and then another. He paused only long enough for her to maybe catch where he had been. He eventually wound up behind her and about 10 trees to the left. "And as far as the power, yeah, it's impressive. I'm quite partial to it, it got me fed just now didn't it? Plus, it is fun to trick people with; I love the unpredictability of it. I wonder what would happen if…naw never mind. So, does this secret of yours, this power, does it 'see' what I think, or does it 'hear' what I think?"

Mikaela cocked an eyebrow suspiciously at the pet name she had just been given by Jackson. She pursed her lips in thought for a moment. It was unusual that she would spend this much time talking to someone, much less give them the opportunity to give her a nickname of any sorts. He thinks he's that slick, she thought to herself dryly. Even if she was out of practice as far as social interaction went, she knew that she could take him down in a matter seconds if she really wanted to. However, she chose to remain quiet for a few moments to allow Jackson his cocky gratification of getting away with calling her doll face.
When he began to blink around the forest trees, Mikaela kept track of where he had been until he wound up in a tree behind her. She turned around and faced him, placing her hands on her hips defiantly and refused to budge from where she stood. "Alright twinkle toes," she said aloud, emphasizing his own nick name, before continuing in thought allowing him to hear. Basically I can hear what you think...every little insignificant thought that passes through your mind, whether you want me to or not. I can also project my thoughts into your mind at will. Without another word, she ran in his direction at inhuman speed and jumped into the tree, landing above him with her face mere inches from his own. "Now...you were wondering what would happen if..." she said in a low voice, smirking at him ever so slightly.

He stood there for a few seconds, soaking in the sight and smell of her. She turned around and stuck her hands up on her hips, as if she were about to tell him what's up. He shrugged it off for the time being however as he then realized that she had just retaliated with a nickname of her own. "Alright twinkle toes… She had said. Then she finished her thought, in her thoughts, pushing them inside his head…again. He was about to reply, when his thoughts were caught off guard by the sight of her running towards him, full tilt, and showing no signs of slowing. Until, that is, she jumped up and settled herself in the tree just above him.
He tilted his head back slightly so that they were now looking at each other in the eyes...upside down. Trying to act nonchalant about the fact that he knew she was trying to intimidate him. He ignored the last question of "Now...you were wondering what would happen if..." and he finished his thoughts about why she became so defiant by putting her hands upon her hips a few moments earlier. He put on a sly smile and thought, 'Maybe it was the fact that I called you doll face…eh? Oh, And by the way that is such an odd feeling, hearing someone else inside my head. I mean, I have enough conversations going on in here without someone else rambling around in there too.' He paused now...
Keeping his thoughts silent, he began a kind of experiment. He kept the smile on his face and also kept looking right into her eyes. As he did this he began to form images in his head, the first one being the very first time he had seen her. That is, after they had ran smack into one another. He also played a few other scenes from earlier in the day, all centered around how he saw her. Strong, beautiful, shy, and yet still so very….yes, defiant was the word. "There is your answer...Didya catch that?"

Mikaela smirked again as Jackson continued to give his answers to her in thought. It had been nearly forty years since her last real conversation with anyone, so she was quite enjoying her time with Jackson thus far. He was a fascinating person and had some pretty interesting thoughts that she rather enjoyed. Having a conversation entirely in thought was somewhat entertaining for Mikaela as she had never done that before. She agreed with him entirely on the weirdness of having someone else in your head. Of course she had everyone else in her head most of the time if she chose to be around any sort of civilization. It was almost weird in a way for her to actually reply to someone else's thoughts since she hadn't done so in years.
While she waited for Jackson's reply to her question, she began to see filtered images coming from his mind; mostly of her. It caught her off-guard for a moment before she began to realize what was going on. Jackson was showing her all of his thoughts on her. She wondered if this meant he was interested in her or what. Mikaela wasn't exactly a genius at the relationship thing...in fact, she had never been in one. Her human life had been to short to really date because she had been so focused on school and her immortal existence had been a lonely one. Looking at Jackson, she raised one eyebrow suspiciously. "Yeah I caught that alright," she said. "But are you trying to flirt with me or something Twinkle Toes?"

He saw the realization of what he was "doing" sink in by the expression she was giving….almost incredulous...was she really not understanding? Unthinking, he decided to milk this for all he could.
"Yeah I caught that alright," she said. "But are you trying to flirt with me or something Twinkle Toes?"
He wiped the images from his head as fast as he could and said out loud, "Naw, it probably wouldn't do any good if I were…plus, if I were interested you'd have known before now…right?" The fact of the matter was that he was very interested. He just didn't want her to know without his knowing first. So he began trying this tactic, he hoped desperately that he was successfully hiding his interest better than before. "Anyways, I wouldn't be trying to flirt I would be straight up flirting with you." He said, as he allowed his cockiness to come out again.
'Now, what to do, what to do? I don't even remember what I was doing earlier...?' Just then his stomach grumbled, he was still hungry. 'Ah, that's right...I need more food, how about you, doll face?"

Mikaela realized exactly what he was doing the second his memories were gone. He did not want her to see whatever it was he was thinking or hear it for that matter. A smirk developed across Mikaela's lips as she began to process all that was happening right in front of her. The truth behind all things was that Jackson was obviously very interested in her...otherwise he would not have gone through all the trouble of trying to hide his thoughts and mental images from her. Nor would he had been so subtle about the things he said directly to her in their conversation. By his remarks, she knew that he was straight up flirting with her...as he said it. It made her laugh to know that he was so casual about things, but she kept that laughter to herself as he continued their conversation in thought, calling her by the unruly nickname he had given her just moments before.
Oh yeah Twinkle Toes, being that someone stole my first meal from me and cheated me out of my second, I still need quite a bit to sate my thirst, she thought to him. This was her outright way of flirting with him, but in a more subtle manner only obvious to women because they all knew how it worked or very observant men. To her knowledge and experience, she had yet to come across one so intelligent that they figured this out. Then again, she had been quite distant from any kind of contact with another person for a long time, so maybe her tactics wouldn't work. She decided to wait and see.

"You sure are a piece of work..." He saw what he thought was a flicker of sarcasm and flirting in her voice at her last comment, and thought it over for a moment, knowing full-well that she could definitely hear what he was thinking. He dismissed it nonchalantly because he didn't want to get his hopes up and said "hmmmm...well, I guess I'll go ahead and be on my way...I'll head west, if you want to follow then cool, if not, then I'll be seeing you, and good luck.' Jackson was doing his best to not show emotions and to not think too much about what he really wanted to think about. He blinked once more, to initiate the fact that he really was going to make an exit, then he winked at her and disappeared into the forest before she would have time to stall him and figure him out completely.

Hearing Jackson call her a "piece of work" would have surely made Mikaela blush in another life, but she was not the shy human girl she once was. Instead, she was the strong, confident vampire who could bring grown men to their knees if she wanted them to. However, she had chosen the imortally lonely life...that was until now. Jackson was the first creature to completely capture her attention in the way that he had. She had never met someone so...frustrating yet completely fascinating at the same time. When he suggested they part ways, Mikaela wanted to object, but before she had a chance...he was blinking away in the flash of light.
Somewhat disappointed, Mikaela turned and started to dart the opposite direction. However, she knew that he would still be able to hear her thoughts. We'll part ways...for now. Meet me one week from now, in the general area of Forks. I know you'll be able to find me. With those parting thoughts, Mikaela sped off into the forest to catch her afternoon meal since her first one had been so rudely interrupted by the infuriatingly charming Jackson. She hoped that he would show up one week from that moment so that she could get to know him better. Until then, she would hunt and spend her time getting to know the area better.
