Mikaela at at the corner of a small cafe in the town square of Forks, taking in her surroundings and the people around her. It had been decades since she was really around any people and hearing all of their thoughts was a tab bit overwhelming for Mikaela as she pressed her fingers to her temples in an attempt to block out all the other voices and listen for one in particular. His. The must infuriating and attractive man she had met in her life, human or immortal. Jackson had swept her off her feet, in a metaphorical sense, from the moment she literally slammed into him while hunting during her first day in Forks just a week ago. He was the first thing she had met in forty years that she didn't want to kill or wanted to spend any time with. Everything else had been dinner or her creator. There was just something about him that she couldn't quite figure out and she needed to know what that was.
As she waited, she thought of her parting words with him...challenging him to meet her one week from that moment. And now she was waiting...hoping that he would accept her challenge and come meet her. As she listened for him, she thought of what he looked like. With the dashing golden eyes and dark hair made him the most gorgeous thing she had ever seen. Of course, she would never tell him that outright because she had never been in a relationship, even when she had been human. Guys just never came at the right time for her. Either she didn't like them or the ones she did like never seemed to notice that she existed. But now...well now, she couldn't even explain to herself what this thing for Jackson was without going completely overboard. For now, she tried to concentrate on the girl who was standing fifteen feet away, thinking about which shoes to buy. It was trivial, but at least it brought Mikaela's thoughts away from the impending disappointment or surprise if Jackson didn't show up or did.

"We'll part ways...for now. Meet me one week from now, in the general area of Forks. I know you'll be able to find me."
Her words played in his head, over and over, just as loud and as clear as when she had first said them. These words came from her as he had unwillingly retreated from her in the forest, no less than a week ago.
He was absolutely floored by her, in more ways than one. Normally Jackson was the "nomad." He loved traveling, and being close, but not too close to people...and he never made too many attachments...however, he seemed to always be in the spotlight. Sure, he had friends in pretty much every town he went to, and he could probably call on any one of them in a time of need, and be more than covered. But when he was with Mikaela, he was 100 times more vulnerable.
First, because she knew absolutely everything that he is thinking, he couldn't seem to keep his thoughts in a steady stream. He noticed that while he was with her, even if it was only for a short time, that his thoughts took on the semblance of a fireworks display. He would kinda sort of begin thinking about something and his thoughts would climax, then they would disappear, and a new thought would erupt. It was more than frustrating, he was used to being in control, even though he knew his thoughts were random to begin with.
Second, because of the fact that he was a "nomad" he was always on the move, but for the past week, all he could think about was being back in the presence of this mysterious "piece of work." He couldn't help it...it's who he wanted, with all that was inside of him, to see again. If he could be with her for the rest of forever, he would, even if that meant actually settling down in one place if she asked him to. He didn't want to give into that "L-word" with out a fight though, he wanted to make sure that this two player game wasn't one sided, before he went all in.
Just as he stepped into the town square, he quietened all of his other feelings and thoughts and said"Three, two, one...Ready or not, here I come."

The girl concentrating on the shoes only distracted Mikaela for about thirty whole seconds before her mind was right back on Jackson. Never had she felt so compelled to be around one person before she slammed into him. There was something mysterious she had yet to unlock about him and his entire personality. He seemed to be a nomad, just as she considered herself. Throughout her entire existence, she had just wandered from place to place in search of food or just to go...without giving reason to where she went or for how long. However, she knew that if Jackson asked her to settle down, she wouldn't give it a second thought and just stay in one place if it meant she could be with him. Her thoughts ran in circles as she kept them inward. What if he doesn't come? Then I look like an idiot...and I know he doesn't care. But what if he does come? Then what... On and on it went.
One part of her wanted to believe he would come; that things would work out between them and maybe, just maybe she'd finally find someone to spend eternity with. That was a daunting thought. She had been alone for so long...who knew if she would even be a good mate for anyone. At least, that's what she was thinking. However, her thoughts were interrupted a few moments later by a familiar voice. One she was glad to hear in her head anytime. Turning around, she saw Jackson walking into the town square. Her lips formed a small smile as she stood from her perch and walked over to him. "So, I see you got my parting message?" she asked with a smirk. "I was beginning to wonder if you were going to come." In that moment, Mikaela could have been over the moon for all she knew. Everything around her moved in a blur, but she didn't care. All she saw was Jackson.

He waited patiently, and did his best to drown out all other sounds. He was listening for her voice in his head again. He figured that she would find him by talking to him in his own head. However, in the silent moments that followed his warning to her, the seconds seemed like years, until he heard her voice...but not in his head. As soon as he heard her voice, his head unintentionally whipped to his right and there she was...walking towards him. Unknowingly his thoughts turned to her, and only her as he locked his eyes on her stunning beauty.
He unnecessarily cleared his throat and said, "Yeah, I got your message alright...and I almost didn't come, but as you can see, curiosity got the best of me." He let out a sigh, and then flashed a debonair smile. "So. How was your...um..week...with out me? And to what, do I owe this honor of getting to see you again?

Mikaela watched in bliss as he turned her direction as her heard her words. His thoughts directly whipped to her, which brought a smile to her face as she listened in. If she were still human, she would have definitely been blushing by now in a brilliant shade of red that would have matched her ruby slippers that she had when she was a child and obcessed with The Wizard of Oz and wanted to be Dorothy all the time. Listening to him talk about almost not coming, but then letting his curiousity get the best of them, Mikaela couldn't help but grin even wider as he flashed his own smile in her direction.
Taking a step closer to him, she flipped her long dark hair over her shoulder and gave a sigh of her own to match his. "The week was rather...uneventful," she replied, shrugging her shoulders once. "I slipped up into Canada for some elk hunting, but other than that...I just hung around this area." Mikaela shuffled her feet for a moment before deciding how to answer his next question. In her mind, she was calculating the possibilities of what could happen with her proposition. If he accepted...it would be on. If not, well she didn't want to think about what might happen if he declined. "I am challenging you to a game," she finally pronounced proudly. "A sort of Come Find Me game between you and I. And there is a prize at the end..." she trailed off, hoping to catch his interest with the lure of an unknown prize at the end of it all.

He listened intently to her as she described her uneventful week, then listened even more carefully as she brought up the reason why she wanted to meet him again. "I am challenging you to a game...A sort of Come Find Me game between you and I. And there is a prize at the end..." He cocked his head to the side and raised an eyebrow, "This could be interesting...Sure, I'm in..."
She had taken him quite off guard, he had only been expecting this meeting to be kind of a date, or a total stand up. He had no idea what was going on in her head...well, when she wasn't trying to, that is. And he was not liking being so vulnerable, but he did his best to act as if it didn't bother him, and keep himself as neutral as possible. He didn't want to jeopardize this new friendship or the chance of this becoming a "relationship." Sure, as a kid he'd had a few "girlfriends" but they were never serious. Now, as he stood there looking at Mikaela, he couldn't help but notice that he'd never EVER felt this way about a girl before, and hoped that she couldn't feel his emotions too... "So, what kind of prize are we talking about here, doll face?

Mikaela couldn't hardly contain her happiness when Jackson said he was in. This was the single best thing in the world that could have happened to her...besides Jackson himself, but she would never let him know that. At least...for the moment she wouldn't let him know. Looking at him, she saw how much he really affected her and thanked whatever entity above that forbade him from knowing her feelings or even the inner-most private thoughts she didn't want him to know. The truth of the matter was, this was the most attracted she had ever been to anyone in her existence and she didn't want to screw it up before it even started.
"Oh no," she taunted when he asked about the prize. "There will be no revealing of the prize until the end of the game mister Twinkle Toes." A small laugh escaped her lips as she called him by his nickname, knowing it would irritate him a little just as it did when she was called by her nickname. However, she was growing to like it...but she wouldn't admit that to him outright. "This game has only two rules...you can go anywhere in the world you like except Antarctica...I have a vendetta against the damn polar bears there," she snorted before continuing. "And secondly...there will be no use of our extra powers of mind-reading or blinking. You got it?"

'Well, it is futile for me to try and 'think' this over to myself because I'm sure you are listening to everything right now, so have a peek into my ambient mind...and let's see if I've got this right...
It's an epic game of "hide-and-seek." I can't blink, and you can't read my mind...wait, how does that one work? And how are we going to know that the other isn't cheating!? We can 'hide' ANYWHERE in the WORLD except Antarctica, random, but ok. Are we talking like, hiding in plain sight? And how much of a head start do we get, and how many rounds are we playing? And then there's this whole issue with the prize in the end. Oh good grief...I think I have too many questions and no clue what I'm getting myself into......and it sounds like fun.
Jackson knew that the whole conversation that he just had would be quite entertaining and he hoped that he didn't just confuse her too. It was a strange thing to him, for a girl who seemed so calm on the surface to turn out to be as curious about him as she was beginning to seem. He knew she was beautiful, and he knew that he loved being with her, and he knew that this game was going to be fun. What he didn't know, on the other hand, was exactly how she felt about him. Was she just bored, and looking for some company or entertainment? Was this whole thing just a charade, or a trap of some kind? Who knew...but he was all in whether he and she liked it or not.

Smirking ever so slightly, Mikaela listened in on Jackson's thoughts as he talked directly to her through them, knowing she would be listening in anyways. As soon as he made that comment himself, she scoffed and thought. Smart ass... to herself as he continued his parade of explaining the game to himself to make sure he understood. The more he rambled on, the more entertained it made Mikaela. She could definitely tell that he was trying to only say stuff to keep his mind going for her benefit. When he was finished a few moments later, after posing some important questions, Mikaela smiled and took a step closer in his direction.
"Whoever starts the game has a six hour headstart," she said first, answering one of his most obvious questions before continuing, "The goal is to hide in some vicinity of plain sight, but you are allowed to go inside buildings and such. We'll use the honor system so that neither of us cheats and yes, I can turn my power on and off at will. I just won't listen for your voice." Pausing for a moment, she thought of how many rounds she wanted to play exactly. On the one hand, vampires had all the time in the world, so they could go on as long as they wanted. However, she did want to get to the end of the game at some point, so she decided on a number and went with it. "Alright, each of us will hide twice and in the end, whoever finds the other one the fastest wins." Stepping into his personal bubble, Mikaela reached up and traced his chin with her finger before thinking, And you have no idea what you've gotten yourself into... with a sly smirk on her face. This was going to be fun.

Thrown for a loopty-loop by Mikaela's sudden closeness, Jackson tried his best to shake it off, and smirk a couple of times to try and throw her off his trail..."Pssh...huh...Psshhh, yeah...who knows..." His voice trailed off, his efforts apparently unsuccessful. He couldn't help but think of the shiver that ran from her finger to his chin, and then all the way down his spine as she so irresistibly said, "And you have no idea what you've gotten yourself into..."
Instinctively he thought to himself 'Pull yourself together man!' and then as soon as he realized what he had said and what he had been thinking about (had he been human he would have turned 5 shades of red) he quickly tried to change the subject hoping that she wouldn't say anything about his moment of 'weakness.'
"Alriiiiighty then...Who is going to hide first?"

Listening in on Jackson's thoughts, Mikaela knew that she had just completely confused him by her actions of seduction. She knew that she was never normally like this, not in her wildest dreams, but something about Jackson made her feel like a whole new woman. In her human life, she would have never been this close nor this seductive with anyone, much less someone who was as attractive and unbelievably cute like Jackson. Just don't break my heart... she pleaded in her own mind, keeping that thought to herself. After forty years of being alone and wandering from place to place, Mikaela found herself wanting to stop for the first time and actually be with someone. Part of her wanted to just tell him how she felt, but the greater more cowardly part kept her silent.
Smirking as he asked who was going to hide first, she took a step back and pursed her lips as if she had to think about it for a moment. Her only intent was to keep him guessing and on his toes. It was far too amusing not to because of all his thoughts and ramblings inwardly that she got the priveledge to hear. "Well, you're up first Twinkle Toes," she said, giving her famous smirk before winking at him once. She was excited to start the game because the ending was going to be the best part. In her mind, she was plotting her locations and exactly what she was going to do in the meantime while he was searching for her. She also wondered where Jackson would take her in his hiding places.

"Well, you're up first Twinkle Toes." She said. Then came a smirk, what it meant, Jackson didn't know. But he did know that he was extremely excited, and anxious about this game, and the prize!
"Ok, Dollface. You've got 6 hours to wait, for me to get "hidden," before you begin chasing after your wildest dream...me." He emphasized the word hidden with air quotes and then pointed to his chest with his thumb at the word 'me.' He smiled his crooked and boyishly evil smile and started walking backwards, showing her that he was ready to get this game started, all he needed was to figure out where he was going to hide. 'And I would suggest that you try and start tuning my thoughts out...because I know how hard its going to be for you. he said with mock pity and a cocky grin.
He winked at her, still walking backwards and thought..."Ready. Set. Here I Go." And with that he turned, and was off and running; running as fast as his long, lean, muscular legs could take him. Hoping that she really was "out of his head" now he began thinking...'Hmm, should I just run and run and see where I end up? Should I stop and concoct a plan of action...Do I even want to know where I'm going?'

Mikaela could only put on her most sarcastic smirk as Jackson talked her chasing her wildest dream...which he concluded that it was himself. Keep telling yourself that Twinkle Toes... she thought to herself, drawing her thoughts inward. As he began to back away from her, she knew that it was only true and that she was just denying it for the time being. He teased her one last time, but she had to get one more shot in before he left. "Oh I can block you out anytime I want," she said coyly as he took off into the woods and out of sight. As soon as he was out of sight, she walked over to a tree stump and plopped down to wait patiently for the next six hours to go by. While sitting there, she began to think about Jackson in general. He was exactly the type of guy she would have gone for in her human life, but never acted on her feelings because she was too self-conscious. Now...all inhibitions had been stripped away in her vampire life. She didn't care. Jackson was the one she wanted. And before she realized it, she was picturing herself with him for eternity. Damn it... she cursed to herself. He has swept me away and I didn't even realize it until now. Everything about Jackson drew her in. His obvious bad boy nature and nonchalaunce about life made her go weak in the knees, though she would never show it outwardly and sure as hell would never let him hear her think that. She wondered if she could actually put down her sarcastic, smart-ass cover long enough to let someone like him in. It had been forty years...and that was a long time to go without any kind of friendship or relationship. Mikaela mulled over these thoughts for about an hour before deciding to go do something productive with her five remaining hours. Taking herself up to Seattle, she decided to go shopping for a new outfit to find Jackson in. If she was going to go on a manhunt, she might as well have gone in style. She picked out a strapless dress, black on the top with a teal skirt that had black designs interwoven in as well as a pair of black heels. Pulling her hair down from her ponytail, she shook it out into it's pleated curls. After she was done, she looked at the clock and saw that it was time for her to begin her hunt. "Ready or not...here I come..." she said aloud to no one as she took off from Seattle. Mikaela's Outfit: www.polyvore.com/jo_simons_elle_birthday_party/set?id=11422419

'Of course she couldn't let me run off without getting in the last word.'
"Oh I can block you out anytime I want." she had said...and with such an attitude! And yet, he liked it. Her spunk was what kept him entertained, not to mention that he couldn't get past her stunning beauty. Every other girl he had met was always too....boring. Over the years he had learned to read body language, and was superbly able to tell by the look in a girl's eye to see that she had fallen for him, (and on the rare occasion, was absolutely repulsed by him) and that it was time to move on...not that he was an avid heart breaker, because he tried not to be. But then this Mikaela girl had run smack into him and into his life and he loved it because he couldn't tell what the hell she was thinking...unless, of course, she chose to literally think in his head. He reveled in the flirtatious banter and the hard time they gave each other and couldn't wait to see her again.
He had started running north, but the more he thought about it, the slower he started to run. About 30 minutes later he finally slowed to a stop and stood in the middle of a highway. When he finally realized where he was he almost blinked to get out of the way of oncoming traffic, and then caught himself. Instead, he sprinted to the side of the road, just in the nick-of-time (for the passengers in the car, that is). He stopped and stooped in the tall grass beside the highway, thinking. 'Where do I want to go? I really do need a plan.' After about another 30 minutes he snapped his fingers and the light bulb went on over his head. Now that he knew where he was headed, he needed to figure out how he should get there. 'Running would get me there, my bike would get me there, or I could catch a plane? Decisions, decisions...' He suddenly got up, and ran back the direction he came from, heading back through Forks, being sure that his scent was marked here and there as he stayed carefully away from the town square, where he had left her an hour ago. He didn't want her to see him change directions, even though he knew she would figure it out sooner or later.
He found and then hid his bike carefully in part of the brush at the edge of the forest in the southern part of Forks. He stretched his muscles, as if they needed to be stretched, and took in deep, unnecessary breaths, that served only to psych his mind up for the long run that he had ahead of him. He laughed at his own foolishness and then headed for Santa Barbara, California. This run took him about 2 hours, so he had been gone for a grand total of 3 hours. 'Great, it only took me 3 hours to get to where I'm hiding, this isn't far enough...ohhhh no! I've got a better idea than here!"
He immediately found the biggest, nearest airport and knowing that his scent would lead her here, he went to the service desk and talked to a lady about his plan. He told her that his 'fiancee' would be coming to this counter, inquiring about him, because he had a surprise planned for her, and she was following clues. So, as he quickly scribbled a note for her, the lady rang up 2 direct/one-way tickets. They were both paid for, but only one was scheduled so far, because naturally, they didn't know when his 'fiancee' would be there exactly. The note said:
Hey Doll-face, It's me, I just wanted to let you know that you are doing a wonderful job figuring out all my clues...keep following your nose and remember...when in Rome, do as the Romans do. XOXO ~Jackson
At first, he hadn't even signed the letter but he wound up ending his note with a couple of x's and o's and his name to pacify the lady behind the counter. As he handed the letter to her, he instructed her to give her the note first and then the ticket after she read the note, and then they were to book the flight. He hoped that Mikaela wouldn't back out of this, and he really hoped that he wasn't an idiot by trying this hard to have fun with her game.
He was on the air plane with in the next hour, and realized that in 2 hours that she would begin her hunt, and that unfortunately his destination would still be another 12 hours away. 'Maybe a 14 hour flight was a bad idea? Or, maybe it will be the perfect place.' He did his best to appear human on the flight, occasionally "falling asleep" and getting up to use the facilities. But when he finally landed in Italy, he got out of there as fast as he could. He ran straight to The Colosseum in Rome, Italy; when he got there he realized that maybe he should be looking a bit nicer than this and ran and bought a very nice looking black and modest suit and tie. Then, he went back to the Colosseum and chose a spot and sat and waited. He was in for a 12 hour wait at the least, and that didn't take in to account how long Mikaela would have to wait for her flight. 'O well, maybe making her sweat will do her some good.'

Mikaela immediately took off from Seattle and caught Jackson's scent about halfway back from Seattle. He had obviously come this way, but stopped about thirty miles from Forks before the scent lingered and drew back toward Forks. She found it odd for him to change directions so quickly but followed it back into Forks and into the town square. He stopped there for something and Mikaela could only guess it was his motorcycle, but she quickly found where he had hidden it before presumably taking off on foot to where he was heading. Smirking, Mikaela walked to the edge of town before bursting into a full run, trailing Jackson's scent.
While she ran, she thought of where in the world he could be leading her. In the few instances she had spoken with him, she knew very little about his personality and what he would do in a situation like this. However, she kept running because she wanted to know these things about him. In fact, she wanted to know everything about him that there was to know. All of his dreams, his past life as a vampire, and his human life. She wanted to feel what it was like to hold his hand just because she could. All of this ran through her mind as she kept pushing herself to follow his scent, until it lead her to Santa Barbara, California an hour and a half later. His scent pulled into the nearest airport and Mikaela stitched her eyebrows together in confusion as she walked through the doors. So he's gonna lead me somewere overseas... she thought to herself as she walked up to the counter and inquired about a man leaving something for her. The woman behind the counter smiled and obviously had been waiting for her as she handed Mikaela a note from her 'fiance' that he had left for her. "That sly man... she thought as she read his note, including the x's and o's at the end. The lady at the counter handed her a one-way ticket to Italy as Mikaela thanked her and headed to her terminal.
When she boarded her flight, she sat in the window seat next to a polite woman who gabbed with her for the first couple of hours about where they were going and why. She simply told her neighbor that she was going to Italy to meet a friend who was supposed to surprise her with something. The woman assumed that he was going to propose to her, which made Mikaela mentally laugh at the thought of Jackson actually proposing to her now after knowing her for all of maybe a week's time. The rest of the fourteen hour flight passed relatively slowly for Mikaela as she pretended to sleep and do other mundane human things. Thankfully, she had thought to purchase a few books before the flight so she had something to amuse herself while she flew across the ocean. The first one she finished in less than four hours and the second took the rest of the flight as she kept getting distracted by pretending to sleep when the stewardesses passed her row.
When the plane landed in Italy, Mikaela bolted through customs and security as fast as she possibly could and got into the streets, finding Jackson's scent still there for her to pick up. She followed it through the streets of Italy all the way until she got to Rome. From there, it got a little muddied just because of time and the fact that there were other vampires around. Thankfully it was night, so she didn't need a cover. When she finally tracked his scent down, it lead her to the old Roman Coliseum where all of the major fights used to be held back in ancient times. Walking into the middle, she looked around until she found the object of her affection sitting and waiting for her. Smirking, she walked up to him and checked her watch. "I do believe I found you in nineteen hours and thirty seven minutes," she said smugly. Considering she had a fourteen hour flight in between, it was pretty damn fast. Looking around, she sat next to him and smiled. "Nice choice. The Roman Coliseum, birthplace of competitive sports."
